Engineering Manager

About the Role

We are looking for an ENGINEERING MANAGER to join our development team. In this role, you will:

Technical Leadership

• Review requirements and validate they meet engineering and quality standards
• Help team members troubleshoot technical issues and unblock complex problems
• Conduct code reviews to maintain code quality, consistency, and best practices
• Contribute to coding efforts as needed to support the team and stay technically engaged

People Leadership & Mentorship

• Provide mentoring and leadership to software and quality engineers at all experience levels
• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports to support growth and address blockers
• Lead annual performance reviews, providing clear, constructive, and actionable feedback
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Team & Resource Management

• Determine capacity allocation across teams/projects to balance workload and priorities
• Own the hiring process for the team — sourcing, interviewing, and closing candidates
• Drive team growth planning and structure to scale with business needs
• Make and manage compensation recommendations in line with company guidelines

What Do You Need?

• Proven experience (3+ years) as an Engineering Manager or senior technical lead with direct people-management responsibility
• Strong technical background with the ability to engage in code reviews and hands-on coding when needed
• Demonstrated experience owning hiring, compensation, and performance review processes
• Excellent communication and mentorship skills, with a track record of developing engineers' careers
• Strong judgment in balancing technical rigor with team growth and delivery timelines
• The ability to adapt and persevere through high-pressure situations and deadlines to support the success of the department
• A passion for problem-solving (you are never satisfied with the status quo)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, eliminating the potential for ambiguity
• Strong understanding of both SaaS and the payroll industries (preferred)
• Working experience with the following technologies:

o C#

o ASP.NET Core Web API

o MS SQL

o Azure

o React (preferred)

o C++ (preferred)

o HTML, Javacript, CSS (preferred)
