We are looking for an Engineering Manager

Location: Venda do Pinheiro
Work model: First months – 1 day/week in the office; after the initial phase – 1 day/month in the office

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own delivery execution and ensure alignment between engineering activities and the overall technology roadmap.
• Drive sustainable, predictable and high-quality software delivery, ensuring teams have the right conditions to deliver effectively.
• Act as line manager for engineers, providing coaching, regular feedback, career development, staffing support and performance management.
• Provide technical direction and promote engineering best practices within the team.
• Ensure a strong focus on software quality, maintainability, testability and operational excellence.
• Collaborate closely with Product Owners and business stakeholders to translate business priorities into realistic and sustainable engineering execution.
• Act as the technical counterpart to the Product Owner, helping balance business needs, technical considerations and delivery priorities.
• Support the definition and implementation of technology strategies, standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, ways of working, technical practices and team performance.
• Foster a collaborative, accountable and improvement-oriented engineering culture.
• Support engineers in taking ownership of their work while encouraging autonomy, knowledge sharing and continuous development.
• Participate actively in the day-to-day activities of Agile product teams and support effective collaboration between Product, Technology and other stakeholders.
• Monitor delivery challenges, technical risks and dependencies, taking appropriate action to ensure delivery remains sustainable and aligned with quality expectations.
• Work closely with international teams across Portugal and Germany, ensuring effective collaboration and alignment across locations.

PROFILE & SKILLS

• 5+ years of professional experience in an engineering role, such as Software Engineering, QA Engineering or a comparable technical position.
• Proven experience in leading, coaching or developing engineers or engineering teams.
• Strong combination of people leadership, technical understanding and delivery ownership.
• Solid understanding of software engineering principles, including quality, maintainability, testability and operational excellence.
• Ability to translate business priorities into realistic, sustainable and technically sound team execution.
• Experience working closely with Product Owners, Agile Leads, business stakeholders and engineering teams.
• Strong technical judgment, with the ability to understand technical challenges and support teams in making appropriate decisions.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and delivery challenges.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and accountable leadership style.
• Ability to provide constructive feedback, support career development and create an environment where engineers can grow.
• Strong understanding of Agile ways of working and experience participating actively in Agile product teams.
• Passion for building healthy, empowered and continuously improving engineering teams.
• Excellent English skills, both written and spoken.
• Willingness to travel occasionally within Europe.
• Experience working in international and cross-functional environments is highly valued.
