Engineering Manager - Data & AI

About the role

The Engineering Manager, Data & AI is responsible for leading the engineering capabilities that underpin Tennis Australia's Data & AI strategy. This role leads the development, operation and continuous evolution of enterprise data and AI platforms, ensuring the organisation has secure, scalable and trusted capabilities to accelerate analytics, AI adoption and data-driven decision making.

Working closely with the Head of Data Analytics & Insights, AI Enablement Lead, the Engineering Manager will establish and execute a long-term platform roadmap, deliver operational excellence across data and AI services, and build the engineering capabilities required to support Tennis Australia's future ambitions. The role will champion modern engineering practices, platform governance and enterprise data management while developing a high-performing engineering team focused on reliability, innovation and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Shape and deliver the Data & AI platform roadmap, aligning architecture, investment and capability development with strategic priorities.
• Lead the development and operation of secure, scalable and reliable enterprise Data & AI platforms.
• Establish enterprise data models, reusable platform services and modern engineering practices to improve consistency and accelerate delivery.
• Embed governance, security, data quality and responsible AI controls across platform design and engineering delivery.
• Lead and develop a high-performing Data & AI Engineering team, building technical capability, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Partner with Data & AI, Technology and business stakeholders to translate strategic priorities into scalable engineering solutions and measurable outcomes.
• Drive operational excellence across Data & AI platforms, strengthening monitoring, incident management, automation and service performance.
• Manage platform priorities, technical debt and operational investment, balancing platform stability with innovation and future capability growth.

About you

• 8+ years' experience in Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering or Software Engineering environments.
• Proven experience leading and developing engineering teams.
• Demonstrated experience building and operating enterprise-scale data platforms.
• Experience developing platform roadmaps and executing technology modernisation initiatives.
• Experience embedding governance, security and operational controls into engineering delivery.
• Strong experience with modern cloud data platforms (Azure, Databricks or equivalent).
• Experience with data architecture, enterprise data modelling and governance frameworks.
• Understanding of DevOps, DataOps, MLOps and operational support models.
• Experience designing scalable, secure and resilient platform solutions.
• Bachelor's degree in technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
