Engineering Manager - Helix Virtualization Platform

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Engineering Manager - Helix Virtualization Platform based in Canada. This role leads a highly skilled software engineering team responsible for developing a mission-critical real-time operating system platform for avionics and automotive applications.

You will guide project execution and feature development while working within structured Agile processes.

The position combines people leadership, technical collaboration, project planning, resource management, and product delivery.

You will partner with architects, senior developers, product managers, technologists, and distributed development teams to deliver high-quality capabilities.

The role also provides opportunities to influence product performance, usability, quality, and the sustainability of engineering processes.

You will help teams navigate complex technical challenges while fostering collaboration, mentoring, and continuous improvement.

Accountabilities

• Manage team priorities, assignments, project execution, and feature development activities.
• Collaborate with architects, senior developers, and product managers to define, estimate, and plan new features.
• Lead Agile Scrum teams through feature design, implementation, testing, refinement, and process improvement.
• Oversee project logistics, resource allocation, and the operational needs required for successful delivery.
• Identify and secure resources required by engineering teams, including hardware, development tools, and other technical resources.
• Help establish and oversee project budgets and support cost-management strategies.
• Drive improvements in the efficiency, sustainability, and effectiveness of engineering processes and product designs.
• Collaborate with other engineering leaders and cross-functional departments to coordinate priorities and delivery.
• Engage with customer-facing and field teams to communicate product and technology information.
• Support communication with customers and stakeholders on relevant product capabilities and technical information.
• Mentor team members, strengthen team collaboration, and help create an environment that supports high performance and continuous development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• 7+ years of experience in software development.
• 2+ years of experience managing software development teams.
• Strong understanding of embedded software technologies and development processes.
• In-depth knowledge of software certification concepts and processes.
• Experience managing projects and teams across multiple development stages.
• Strong personnel management, project management, organizational, planning, and documentation skills.
• Strategic thinking combined with strong critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong leadership, team-building, mentoring, communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to evaluate new approaches when facing technical or organizational challenges.
• Ability to use presentation tools to communicate complex technical information effectively to non-technical managers and other stakeholders.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies or similar collaborative development practices is desirable.
• Knowledge of DO-178C certification standards is a plus.
• Experience with software development tools such as Git, GitLab, Jenkins, and Jira is desirable.
• Familiarity with Agile, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), and/or DevSecOps concepts is beneficial.
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle and familiarity with Agile/Scrum project management tools is a plus.
• Scrum certifications such as CSM, PSM, or CSPO are desirable.
• Familiarity with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), RTOS development tools, and hypervisor technologies is beneficial.
