About the role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and support engineering activities across Viking Industrial’s projects, assets and technical standards.

Reporting to the Major Projects General Manager, the Engineering Manager will provide technical leadership across project delivery, ensuring designs, drawings, modifications and engineering solutions are safe, practical, compliant and commercially effective.

Working closely with the Major Projects team, you will play a key role in strengthening Viking Industrial’s engineering capability, supporting technical decision-making and maintaining strong relationships with local and international OEMs, suppliers and technical partners.

The role will also provide hands-on engineering support to projects and site activities as required. Travel will form part of the position and may include occasional overnight stays and, at times, extended periods away from home.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead engineering design, review and technical support for generator packages, installations, modifications and project requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership across projects and support the ongoing development of Viking Industrial’s engineering capability.
  • Lead and support the engineering team, including the development of technical capability and engineering standards.
  • Set and maintain engineering standards, drawing control, technical documentation and approval processes.
  • Review OEM and supplier designs to ensure engineering solutions meet applicable Australian Standards, project requirements and site conditions.
  • Provide technical guidance to drafting, workshop, service, operations and project teams.
  • Review customer specifications, tender requirements and design risks before commitments are made.
  • Support the investigation and resolution of complex technical issues and recurring equipment failures.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with local and international OEMs, manufacturers, generator suppliers and technical partners.
  • Coordinate external engineers, consultants, certifiers, designers and fabricators where required.
  • Ensure engineering solutions consider safety, compliance, maintainability, transportability and operational practicality.
  • Manage engineering priorities, workloads and deliverables to support project schedules and business requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement of asset designs, standard builds, technical documentation, document control and quality systems.
  • Identify and report engineering risks, resource constraints and improvement opportunities to senior management.

About you

  • A relevant Electrical Engineering qualification or substantial technical leadership experience within a relevant electrical engineering discipline.

  • Demonstrated project engineering experience, preferably within power generation, electrical systems, generator packages, fabrication or industrial projects.

  • Strong practical, hands-on and on-site engineering experience.

  • Working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, including AS/NZS 3000.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, with experience in Inventor and/or Revit highly regarded.

  • Demonstrated experience leading, managing or developing engineering and technical teams.

  • Strong design review, technical problem-solving, stakeholder management and documentation skills.

  • Experience working with OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers and external engineering consultants.

  • Experience reviewing engineering designs against Australian Standards and project requirements.

  • Familiarity with PDM and engineering document control systems.

  • Strong understanding of safety, engineering standards, compliance and project delivery requirements.

  • Ability and willingness to travel nationally as required, including overnight stays and occasional extended periods away from home.

  • Maintain required licences, inductions, training, medicals and competencies relevant to the role.
