Engineering Project Manager

Cedarcrest Hospitals Limited was founded in Abuja in January, 2008. The hospital started as a mono specialty centre and was formerly known as Cedarcrest Orthopaedic Clinics Ltd. Within a few years the hospital expanded its scope of services and has become a leading private multispecialty hospital. The core vision of the organisation is to provide world class specialist healthcare services to patients in Nigeria and the West African sub region.

Cedarcrest Hospitals Ltd currently has four hospitals located in Abuja, Lagos, Kainji and Jebba having over one hundred (100) bed capacity without patient camps in several other cities across Nigeria. Our services and facilities span several specialities and include emergency / trauma centre, radiology diagnostic centre, prosthetic manufacturing plant, oxygen manufacturing plant, modular surgical operating theatres, gastrointestinal endoscopy suite and several other facilities that make for a modern multispecialty hospital.

Job Position: Engineering Project Manager

Job Location: Abuja

Job type: Full-time

Purpose of the Role

• To plan, execute, and deliver engineering and capital projects across Cedarcrest Hospitals Ltd. — including medical equipment installations, facility upgrades, new-build works, and plant/system replacements — on time, within budget, and in full compliance with healthcare regulatory, safety, and quality standards, while minimizing disruption to clinical services and hospital operations.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery:

• Manage the full project lifecycle (initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, closure) for engineering projects ranging from equipment installation to major infrastructure works.
• Develop and maintain project charters, scope documents, work breakdown structures, Gantt schedules, and resource plans.
• Stakeholder & Contractor Management
• Coordinate with hospital departments, including clinical departments, procurement, finance, IT, and infection prevention & control to ensure projects meet operational needs and regulatory requirements.
• Procure and manage external consultants, architects, contractors, and vendors — including tender evaluation, contract negotiation, and performance management.
• Chair project review meetings and produce progress reports for the leadership team.

Compliance, Safety & Quality:

• Ensure all works comply with applicable building codes, healthcare facility standards (infection control, medical gas systems, electrical safety), fire safety, and environmental requirements.
• Enforce permit-to-work, isolation, and downtime procedures to safeguard patient safety and continuity of clinical services during works.

Qualifications and Experience

• BSc/BEng in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
• 5+ years of managing engineering/construction projects, of which at least 2 years in a healthcare or similarly regulated environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to liaise credibly with clinicians, executives, regulators, and tradespeople
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage contractors; excellent negotiation and conflict-resolution skills
• Valid driver's licence; willingness to be on call for project emergencies
• Membership of a recognised professional engineering body (e.g., COREN, ASME, CIBSE)
