Medserv is a market-leading provider of healthcare administration and billing services across Ireland and the UK. Our technology supports medical practices with billing, claims, payments, appointments and patient administration.

The Role

You will lead a team of five engineers, taking ownership of team delivery, technical quality and people development. This is a hands-on leadership role: approximately 30% of your time will be spent in the codebase, with the remainder focused on leading the team and delivering against agreed priorities.

What You'll Do

• Lead and develop five engineers through 1:1s, feedback, performance management and career development.
• Own delivery from planning and refinement through to release.
• Remove blockers, manage dependencies and surface delivery risks early.
• Stay hands-on through coding, code reviews and technical decision-making.
• Work with Product to turn business needs into clear, deliverable work.
• Own the quality and reliability of the systems your team supports.
• Use engineering metrics and AI tools to improve how the team works.
• Manage external contractors and maintain consistent engineering standards.
• Report clearly on progress, risks and delivery.

Our Technology

PHP, Laravel, MySQL, React, TypeScript, Python, Azure, AWS, Redis, GitHub Actions, Sentry and Playwright.

What We're Looking For

• 2+ years directly managing engineers, including performance and development.
• A strong track record of leading teams to deliver and ship software.
• Strong commercial PHP experience, ideally with Laravel.
• Experience leading agile delivery and improving team performance.
• Good knowledge of relational database design and MySQL.
• Confidence setting expectations, making decisions and addressing performance or delivery issues.

Location/Additional info:

• Flexible hybrid role based in Dublin, with a minimum of two days per week in the office
• You do not need to have previously held the title of Engineering Team Lead. We care more about the level you have operated at, the teams you have led and the results you have delivered
