Engineering Technician

About Madrone

Madrone is building the thermal infrastructure required for artificial intelligence to tackle humanity’s most complex challenges - from curing cancer to achieving room-temperature superconductivity.

Power is the primary constraint on data center growth, and currently up to 40% of power is lost to cooling at current GW-scale sites.

Madrone’s first product is a modular, hyper-efficient facility water cooling system for hyperscale data centers. It allows cooling to the dew point, lower than anyone else can without using mechanical chillers.

We’re assembling an exceptional team to push the frontier of heat rejection on Earth.

About the role

We are hiring Engineering Technicians to turn designs into working hardware. You will build and test prototypes, assemble sensors and wire harnesses, set up our warehouse and test space, receive large equipment at the heart of our product.

This is a physical, hands-on role. On a given day, you might assemble a piping loop, move a heat exchanger into place, terminate a sensor cable, check electrical connections, troubleshoot a leak, or help run a system test. You will work closely with our engineers and founders, and what you observe during builds and tests will directly improve the design.

What you’ll own

  • Assemble cooling systems, test rigs, piping, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, fans, sensors, and structural components.
  • Cut, fit, and connect piping and tubing; pressure-test assemblies and find and fix leaks.
  • Build and install wire harnesses, route cables, crimp and terminate connectors, and label wiring.
  • Assemble and install sensors and instrumentation, including temperature, pressure, flow, and other measurement devices.
  • Perform electrical checks such as continuity, polarity, and basic functional testing; help troubleshoot wiring and instrumentation issues with engineers.
  • Receive, inspect, inventory, move, and stage large or heavy equipment using appropriate lifting equipment and safe practices.
  • Help set up and maintain an organized warehouse, workshop, and test area.
  • Follow test procedures, record measurements, and flag unexpected results.
  • Keep tools, parts, and build documentation organized so work can be repeated reliably.
  • Support equipment installation, commissioning, and field testing as we grow.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience building, installing, maintaining, or testing physical equipment. Trade, manufacturing, lab, field-service, and equivalent hands-on experience all count.
  • Comfort using hand tools, power tools, and measurement equipment, including a multimeter.
  • Practical plumbing or fluid-system experience, including fittings, valves, pumps, and leak testing.
  • Experience with wiring, connectors, sensors, or electrical assembly, or an interest in developing those skills.
  • The ability to read mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and written procedures, and to document work clearly.
  • Sound judgment when moving heavy equipment and working around pressurized water, electricity, and operating machinery.
  • A careful, resourceful approach to troubleshooting.
  • Willingness to take on both precision assembly and the everyday work of setting up a growing hardware operation.

Particularly relevant experience

Any of the following would be valuable, but none is individually required:

  • Industrial plumbing, pipefitting, HVAC, cooling systems, or water-treatment equipment.
  • Wire harness fabrication, cable termination, panel assembly, or sensor installation.
  • Electrical testing, instrumentation, controls wiring, or test-data collection.
  • Building or operating engineering test rigs.
  • Receiving freight, operating forklifts or pallet jacks, and rigging heavy equipment.
  • Warehouse setup, inventory management, or equipment commissioning.

You may be a strong fit if you

  • Like building things with your hands and seeing them work.
  • Enjoy solving practical problems with engineers and fellow technicians.
  • Want the hardware you build to become part of large-scale AI infrastructure.

Equal Opportunity Employer:

Madrone is committed to fostering an inclusive and meritocratic workplace. We provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected status.
