Specializing in heavy mechanical maintenance, structural and pressure welding, we support complex industrial projects across Western Canada. With significant growth underway, Structure Group offers tremendous opportunities for skilled professionals to grow with the company, take on greater responsibility, and build long-term careers as we continue to expand our capabilities, workforce, and project portfolio.

Position Overview

Structure Group is seeking a motivated and technically capable Engineering Technologist or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to support engineering, technical planning, and project execution activities across its industrial construction and fabrication operations.

This opportunity is ideally suited to an engineering technologist or early career engineering professional with approximately 1–3 years of post-graduation experience who is looking to develop practical technical expertise in an industrial environment.

Working alongside experienced engineering, project management, and operations personnel, the successful candidate will contribute to technical documentation, engineering calculations, material requirements, project planning, and the resolution of technical challenges encountered during fabrication and field execution.

The position offers exposure to the full project lifecycle, from initial technical assessment and planning through fabrication, installation, and project completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, review, and interpretation of engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Support engineering design, technical calculations, material selection, and project-related technical evaluations within the individual's qualifications and level of supervision.
  • Prepare and maintain technical drawings, sketches, layouts, and supporting engineering documentation.
  • Assist with material takeoffs, quantity calculations, bills of materials, and preliminary cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and field personnel to support project planning and execution.
  • Participate in site visits, field assessments, and technical inspections to evaluate existing conditions and project requirements.
  • Provide technical support to fabrication and construction teams, including assisting with the resolution of design and installation challenges.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to obtain technical information, material specifications, and product documentation.
  • Support procurement activities by reviewing technical requirements and confirming material specifications.
  • Assist with the preparation of work packages, technical reports, project records, and quality documentation.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control activities to verify compliance with applicable drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Support engineering change management, document revisions, and as-built documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve technical processes, fabrication methods, and operational efficiency.
  • Work under the direction of qualified engineering professionals, as applicable, while progressively developing technical knowledge and independent problem-solving capabilities.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Diploma in Mechanical, Materials, Welding, or a related Engineering Technology program or a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline;
  • Approximately 1–3 years of relevant experience following graduation, preferably in an industrial, fabrication, construction, or engineering environment.
  • Eligibility for CET registration with ASET or Engineer-in-Training registration with APEGA, is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, technical drawings, and industrial construction principles.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or comparable engineering design software is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and apply engineering principles to practical challenges.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to collaborate with field and shop personnel.
  • Willingness to participate in site visits and gain practical experience in fabrication and industrial construction environments.
  • Valid driver's licence preferred.

Compensation

Annual salary: $60,000–$72,000 CAD, commensurate with education, experience, and technical capabilities.

Professional Development

Structure Group offers the opportunity to develop practical engineering and technical competencies through exposure to industrial projects, experienced technical professionals, and hands-on fabrication and field activities.
