Engineering VP - Solar / renewables

Opportunity to join a global leading solar and BESS developer and investor company.

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Vice President of Engineering. The successful candidate will oversee engineering design, technical evaluation, project bidding, and project delivery support, ensuring projects are developed and executed to the highest technical, commercial, and safety standards.

This role requires strong experience in both renewable energy and mining sectors(or firming energy).

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership

• Lead the engineering function for utility-scale solar, BESS, and hybrid energy projects.
• Establish engineering strategies, standards, and best practices across the project portfolio.
• Manage multidisciplinary engineering teams and external consultants.

Design & Technical Evaluation

• Oversee preliminary and detailed engineering design for solar PV, BESS, and related infrastructure.
• Evaluate technical feasibility, project risks, and optimization opportunities.
• Review and approve key engineering deliverables, including layouts, single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and design calculations.
• Support technology selection, vendor assessment, and performance analysis.

Project Bidding & Tender Support

• Lead technical inputs for EPC, equipment, and construction tenders.
• Prepare and review technical proposals, bid documentation, and engineering scopes of work.
• Participate in contractor evaluations, negotiations, and contract awards.
• Provide technical due diligence for acquisitions and development opportunities.

Project Execution & Follow-up

• Provide engineering oversight throughout project execution.
• Monitor project progress, technical performance, budget, and schedule compliance.
• Coordinate with development, procurement, construction, and operations teams to resolve project issues.
• Support commissioning, performance testing, and project handover activities.

Stakeholder Management

• Engage with utilities, regulators, mining clients, EPC contractors, and technology suppliers.
• Present technical strategies and project updates to senior management and investors.
• Build strong relationships with key industry stakeholders.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Master's degree is advantageous.

Experience

• Strong engineering experience within renewable energy , power generation, or mining industries.
• Proven track record delivering utility-scale solar PV projects.
• Strong experience with mining or firming energy is necessary.
• Experience supporting technical evaluations, project bidding, EPC procurement, and project execution.
• Experience working on mining power supply projects or renewable energy solutions for mining operations is highly desirable.
• Previous leadership experience managing engineering teams and external consultants.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of solar PV system design and performance modelling.
• Understanding of energy storage technologies and firming strategies.
• Familiarity with grid connection requirements, transmission infrastructure, and power system studies.
• Knowledge of relevant engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Proficiency with engineering and project management tools.
