At the heart is our purpose. Taking care of tomorrow: connecting people and place today. This pushes us to do all we can to create a better future for our people, our communities, and Aotearoa New Zealand.
Tā mātou arawātea | Our Opportunity:
Mercury is taking care of tomorrow by connecting people and place today, and technology is central to how we deliver more reliable, renewable energy and a low carbon future.
As our Enterprise Architect, you’ll help shape and deliver Mercury’s medium- and long-term technology roadmaps, standards and guidelines, and help others put them into practice. You’ll be a trusted advisor to senior leaders, technology delivery teams and business groups – engaging early, providing thought leadership and mentoring, and helping solutions keep their integrity through to delivery.
You’ll report to the Architecture & Data Manager and be based in Auckland or Tauranga, with travel to key sites.
Tāu e mahi ai | What you’ll be doing:
- Developing and promoting Mercury’s technology roadmaps, reference architectures and patterns, and selecting the right technologies with stakeholders
- Engaging early with senior business leaders to shape strategy and direction, and developing conceptual enterprise and solution models that integrate business, data and application architecture
- Partnering with programme and project managers, business leaders and Architects so solutions are aligned, secure, high quality and workable
- Informing and guiding enterprise-wide prioritisation and planning, and building strong supplier relationships
- Developing architecture standards and supporting governance forums and assurance, so solutions meet policy and regulatory requirements and sit within our risk appetite
- Contributing to our Architecture Community of Practice with direction, content and facilitation, and helping business groups understand how change impacts our technology platforms
- Mentoring architects and senior engineers, and keeping across emerging industry trends
Tāu ka kawe mai | What you’ll bring:
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field (a postgraduate degree in business, technology or a related area is highly desirable)
- Extensive experience in technology strategy and architecture roles within a commercial IT environment, including at least 5 years as an Enterprise Solution Architect on complex, enterprise-grade solutions
- Proficiency with enterprise architecture frameworks, modelling notations and tools (e.g. TOGAF, UML, ArchiMate, EA Sparx, Archi)
- A solid understanding of software design best practice, the application development lifecycle, relational data modelling, and on-premises and cloud infrastructure
- Demonstrated experience in data modelling and business analysis, and a track record of leading large-scale technology initiatives
- Strong strategic thinking, with the ability to set a clear vision and turn it into practical roadmaps
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills - able to influence without authority, tell clear, compelling stories that connect technology to business value, and engage technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels
- An adaptive leadership style that gives people autonomy, clarity and purpose
