What they need
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Data Architect with a strong background in SQL Server-based data architecture and data warehousing, along with current Microsoft Fabric experience.
The role will support the modernization of an existing enterprise data environment, including architecture assessment, solution design, legacy platform rationalization, and transition to Fabric.
This is an architecture and design role, not a Data Engineering position. The architect should be technically strong enough to troubleshoot issues and guide implementation teams without being responsible for building production pipelines, notebooks, or code.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess existing SQL Server data warehouses, data marts, integrations, and data flows.
- Define current-state and target-state architecture.
- Provide architecture guidance across Microsoft Fabric and SQL Server environments.
- Design solutions using OneLake, Lakehouse, Warehouse, and Fabric integration patterns.
- Support modernization and rationalization of legacy data platforms.
- Develop/review HLDs, LLDs, architecture diagrams, data flows, and integration designs.
- Apply conceptual, logical, physical, and dimensional data modeling.
- Provide guidance around integration, governance, security, data quality, and MDM.
- Troubleshoot architecture/design issues and guide technical teams through implementation.
- Work independently with business and technical stakeholders in a lean environment.
Required Experience
- 8 10+ years of Data Architecture/Data Warehouse experience.
- Strong SQL Server, enterprise data warehouse, and data mart background.
- Current Microsoft Fabric experience required.
- Experience with OneLake, Lakehouse/Warehouse, and data integration patterns.
- Legacy/on-prem to cloud modernization and migration experience.
- Strong data modeling and enterprise data integration experience.
- Working SQL/T-SQL knowledge for design reviews and troubleshooting.
- Experience producing HLDs, LLDs, and data-flow/architecture diagrams.
- Understanding of data governance, security, MDM, and data quality.
Nice to have: Broader Enterprise Architecture and Azure data platform experience.
