【Entry Level】 Software Engineer - Ecosystem Platform Supervisory Department

【Position Overview】

The Ecosystem Platform Supervisory Department (EPSD) develops scalable and reliable platforms that support the entire Rakuten Ecosystem globally, fostering a culture of ownership and data-driven decision-making.

This position involves application development for new features, improvements to existing features, and feature additions for the Rakuten Ecosystem platform. Specifically, you will be responsible for requirements definition, overview design, system design, detailed design, development, implementation, functional testing, operation, and maintenance. In addition, you will work on introducing the latest technologies, problem solving, and feature enhancement.

【Position Details】

You will be assigned to either one of these positions:

＜Applications Engineer＞

・ Design and development of software applications

・ Coordinate and collaborate with other related teams to understand client requirements and incorporate them into designs

・ Respond to system failures and debug existing systems

・ Analyze root causes of failures and propose and develop solutions

・ Assist in the creation of design documents and other documentation

・ Participate in project planning

・ Track the latest technological trends and incorporate them into systems

＜Software QA Engineer＞

・ Contribute to QA activities including test planning, analysis, execution, and reporting to ensure no production incidents

・ Build and maintain a reliable automation test framework and test scripts for increasing delivery speed

・ Participate in online review/discussion sessions with onshore team and partner teams across the globe

【Mandatory Requirements】

・Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

・Development experience in at least one programming language, such as Java, Kotlin, Python, C++, Ruby, or JavaScript

・Practical experience and knowledge of software development fundamentals, including development processes, software design and architecture, data structures, data modeling, and release processes

・Development experience in Linux environments, including basic knowledge of Linux commands

・Basic knowledge and experience using Git for version control

・Experience developing server applications or mobile applications (Android/iOS)

・Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills

・Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with strong communication skills including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

・Strong interest in emerging technologies and a willingness to continuously learn and adopt new knowledge

【Desired Requirements】

・Experience using SQL for database-related development and operations

・Basic knowledge of web and networking technologies, including HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP

・Experience developing web services or mobile applications

・Experience developing internet services through internships, part-time roles, or similar experiences

・Experience building and operating containerized or cloud-native environments using Docker and Kubernetes

・Experience with scripting languages such as Shell Script for automation or operational tasks

・Experience owning products or services from development through release

・Experience using automated testing tools such as Cucumber, Robot Framework, Selenium, or Gatling

・Software testing-related certifications, such as ISTQB

・Experience collaborating with team members from diverse cultural backgrounds
