What they need
About the firm
The Lacy Employment Law Firm is a plaintiff-side employment litigation boutique representing employees in discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower, and wage matters, with occasional civil rights and personal injury work. Founded in 2021 by Andrew Lacy — a Cornell Law graduate, former Reed Smith attorney, federal clerk (W.D. Pa.), and President of the Eastern Pennsylvania chapter of NELA — the firm pairs rigorous training with aggressive, client-centered advocacy. We’re a remote-first firm with offices in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and New Jersey, and we run a modern, technology-forward practice.
The role
This is a full-time, remote associate position with real responsibility from the start. You’ll draft complaints, motions, and discovery; conduct legal research and write case-strategy memoranda; run client intakes and evaluate claims; and participate in negotiations, mediations, depositions, and hearings. Unlike defense firms where you wait years to touch a deposition, our associates take and defend depositions, handle mediations, and manage their own cases — with close mentorship — within their first year.
What we offer
- A structured two-week onboarding program plus an internal Notion/Loom training library covering intake, drafting, negotiation, and litigation.
- Weekly one-on-ones, a monthly litigation meeting, and direct access to the founder.
- A base salary of $80,000–$110,000 depending on experience , plus a production bonus: once you collect enough fees to triple your base, you earn a meaningful percentage of every dollar after that. Most attorneys hit their bonus.
- An AI-forward workflow that lets a sharp attorney move faster than a traditional firm allows.
What we’re looking for
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the Pennsylvania bar (recent graduates awaiting PA results may apply; please note your exam date). New Jersey admission is a strong plus given our New Jersey docket.
- Ability to cover in-person appearances in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania when required — so candidates should be within roughly an hour’s drive of the federal courthouse in Philadelphia (greater Philadelphia, South/Central New Jersey, or northern Delaware).
- Trial advocacy or mock trial experience — the ability to think on your feet and be persuasive, not just write briefs. This matters more to us than any other credential.
- Strong legal drafting, legal research, and client-communication skills, and the organization to manage multiple matters remotely.
- A genuine commitment to plaintiff-side and public-interest work.
