What they need
Your mission
Help us deliver precision parts that meet demanding customer specifications, every time. In this apprenticeship, you’ll learn to set up, run, and verify CNC operations while building a strong foundation in safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Imagine your first months
You arrive, review the cell’s work instructions, and sync with your CNC Trainer or Supervisor. You prep the machine and gages, start a run, and check features using plug, snap, flush pin, go/no‑go, and calipers. When dimensions drift, you make offset adjustments and change inserts—selecting the correct type and radius—then re‑verify. You keep paperwork current, follow the tag procedure, and maintain a spotless, safe, and environmentally compliant area.
Core responsibilities
- Adhere to all job, inspection, safety, and environmental instructions as outlined in cell documentation and by your Trainer/Supervisor
- Prepare machines and gaging for efficient operation
- Operate CNC equipment; verify conformance of parts with appropriate gages
- Consistently meet or exceed production standards while upholding company and customer quality expectations
- Perform offset adjustments to sustain tolerance control
- Change inserts correctly and track insert condition/type/radius
- Follow the tag procedure for clear part identification and status
- Maintain housekeeping and comply with Safety & Environmental requirements (recycling, labeling, spill response, and related programs)
- Meet all applicable Quality and Environmental system requirements
- Propose and submit ideas that improve safety, productivity, quality, and housekeeping (to your supervisor or HR box)
- Complete other duties as assigned by your supervisor
What sets you up for success
- Hands‑on experience—or strong aptitude to be trained—on CNC lathes, mills, and broaches
- Machine shop training in high school or beyond
- Ability to perform offset adjustments confidently
- Knowledge of insert types and radii and how to change them properly
- Proficiency with gages: plug, snap, flush pin, go/no‑go, calipers, and related tools
Technology & production environment
- CNC lathe operations in a high‑volume setting
- Fanuc controls
- Tool changes (inserts), offset setting, and basic quality troubleshooting
- Familiarity with diverse gaging for in‑process checks
If you’re motivated, detail‑driven, and eager to learn, this apprenticeship gives you the platform to grow into a skilled CNC technician.
