Environment & Safety Engineer

About the role

Environment & Safety Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable environmental and OSH regulations, corporate HSES requirements, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System, and site HSES Goals. The role supports continuous improvement initiatives, environmental stewardship, incident prevention and regulatory compliance while promoting a positive safety culture across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support environmental and safety compliance programs in accordance with applicable legal and company requirements i.e. air emissions, wastewater management, scheduled waste handling, DOE requirements, and environmental regulatory compliance.
• Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analyses.
• Develop, implement, and monitor HSES management systems, procedures, and standards.
• Drive environmental performance improvement initiatives, including waste, emissions, and resource management programs.
• Support audits, inspections, and regulatory engagements.
• Provide technical guidance and coaching to employees and contractors on HSES matters.
• Monitor HSES performance indicators and prepare management reports
• Participate in project reviews to ensure environmental and safety requirements are incorporated during planning and execution stages.
• Support emergency preparedness and response activities.

About you

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, Safety Engineering, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience in environmental and safety management within an industrial, manufacturing, or energy-related environment.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in environmental management within a chemical plant setting, including air emissions, wastewater management, scheduled waste handling and environmental regulatory compliance, is considered a must-have for this position.
• Experience in incident investigation, risk assessment, and management systems implementation.
• Professional certification in safety and health or environmental management will be an added advantage.
• Experience in ESG-related initiatives, projects, or implementation would be an advantage, but it is not a pre-requisite for the role.
• A Green Book (Safety Officer) would be an advantage, but it is not a pre-requisite for the role.
