What they need
Business in the Community Northern Ireland has two exciting opportunities to join our Environment Team.
We are at a critical point for our planet. Government, business and wider society all have a responsibility to drive meaningful change. Business in the Community Northern Ireland works with businesses across Northern Ireland to turn environmental ambition into practical action on climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, resource efficiency and wider sustainability challenges.
We are recruiting two Environment Programme Managers to develop and deliver high-quality environmental programmes, training and advisory support. Both roles will build strong relationships with businesses and stakeholders, deliver engaging events and webinars, and contribute to the continued growth and impact of our wider Environment programme.
The roles
Programme Manager – Benchmarking Lead
Location: Belfast, with flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
You will lead the delivery and development of the Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey (NIEBS), managing participant and stakeholder engagement and overseeing reporting and verification processes. You will also deliver events and webinars and may support other areas of the Environment programme, including Climate Advisory support, the Climate Action Pledge, and our Nature & Biodiversity programme.
Programme Manager – Climate Lead

You will manage our climate support for businesses, oversee delivery of the Climate Action Pledge, and design and deliver events and webinars. You may also support other areas of the Environment programme, including our Nature & Biodiversity programme and elements of NIEBS.
What you will do
· Support the development and implementation of BITC NI’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy, delivering agreed objectives and maximising business engagement across climate action, nature and biodiversity, the circular economy and related workstreams.
· Lead or contribute to environmental campaigns, programmes, training, consultancy and advisory services tailored to member and client needs.
· Develop and manage activities that engage businesses in environmental action and deliver BITC NI’s strategic goals.
· Build and grow relationships with member companies, supporting their environmental journey and encouraging participation in BITC NI’s wider activities.
· Design and deliver high-quality events, workshops, webinars and projects that promote environmental excellence and continuous improvement.
· Strengthen partnerships with businesses, government agencies, schools, community groups, charities and other relevant organisations.
· Support income generation by identifying funding opportunities and contributing to bids and proposals.
· Maintain awareness of relevant environmental policy, legislation, best practice and funding opportunities.
· Monitor and evaluate programme delivery, with a focus on impact, learning, quality and risk management.
· Represent BITC NI on environmental issues where appropriate and contribute positively to the wider team.
What we are looking for
· At least three years’ recent, relevant experience in environmental or climate-related work.
· A strong understanding of environmental and climate issues, including current policy, legislation and best practice.
· Experience of developing and delivering engaging environmental programmes, training, consultancy or advisory support.
· A proven ability to build relationships with business leaders and stakeholders across sectors.
· Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt your style for private, public and community audiences.
· Strong organisational, analytical and project management skills, with the ability to manage your own workload and work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
· An ability to understand client priorities and tailor advice creatively and pragmatically to meet different organisational needs.
· Confidence using digital tools and IT systems to support programme delivery, engagement and reporting.
· Experience of income generation and contributing to funding bids.
· Knowledge of the Northern Ireland business landscape and the challenges and opportunities associated with corporate sustainability.
Desirable: A third-level qualification with an environmental focus; experience of programme management; and experience of developing and delivering training programmes.
