We believe the most valuable asset an organization has is its people. Our team members are dynamic, energetic, entrepreneurial and creative, but most importantly, they are the company. We lead the industry by adopting new technology and finding creative solutions that improve efficiency and allow for a flexible work environment. Whether your career with Connexa is in the field or the office, you'll find we adapt to the ever-changing workplace.

We're looking for a junior to intermediate Environmental Field Technician based in Fort McMurray or Edmonton, AB to support our environmental team on winter vegetation clearing programs in northern Alberta. This is a short-term, field-based role for someone with wildlife experience who loves working outdoors and wants to grow with an innovative, forward-thinking company.

The Work:

  • Complete pre-clearing wildlife sweeps, including den searches and winter track surveys, ahead of brushing crews
  • Monitor clearing activities and help keep work in line with project environmental requirements
  • Identify and record wildlife, wildlife features and sensitive areas, and flag concerns to the project lead
  • Collect field data and photos using GPS and mobile data collection tools
  • Keep clear, accurate field notes, records and daily reports
  • Communicate daily with your project lead, clearing crews and client site representatives
  • Follow safety protocols on active industrial sites
  • Work long days outdoors in winter conditions, including on snowshoes and in remote areas
  • Travel for field rotations as projects require

What you bring to the table:

  • A diploma or degree in environmental science, biology, wildlife management, natural resources or a related field
  • 1 to 3 years of environmental field experience
  • Experience with wildlife surveys, ideally in boreal forest or northern Alberta
  • Confidence identifying boreal wildlife species and signs (tracks, dens, nests)
  • Ability to work safely in cold weather, deep snow and rough terrain for full field days
  • A valid Class 5 driver's licence
  • Experience on oil sands or other industrial sites is an asset
  • Snowmobile or ATV experience is an asset
  • Working toward a professional designation (e.g., Biologist-in-Training) is an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

We hire people who live our values every day:

  • Relationship Builder: you build trust with clients and coworkers, and you're comfortable working directly with clients
  • Team Player: you put the team first, help where it's needed and follow through
  • Growth Oriented: you're always learning and looking to build your skills
  • Creative Problem Solver: you look for better ways to get the job done

  • A commitment to investing in your future, with real opportunities for career progression as you grow with Connexa
  • Hands-on mentorship and one-on-one training with experienced colleagues across the field and office
  • Health and benefits package
  • Flexible health spending account
  • Life insurance and travel health coverage
  • Professional dues covered, where applicable
  • Paid safety training relevant to your role (e.g., First Aid, H2S, ATV)

If you feel this is the right challenge for you and you meet these qualifications, please respond to this ad with your resume and cover letter in Word or PDF format.

We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
