Environmental Services Administrator

Full-Time Permanent | Rangiora Based

The Waimakariri District is one of the fastest-growing areas in New Zealand, with a population of over 69,000. Located just north of Christchurch, we offer a unique blend of urban and rural living, a strong sense of community, and a commitment to innovation and sustainability. At the heart of this growth is the Waimakariri District Council, where we’re proud to serve and support our vibrant district.

About the Role

In this dynamic and varied role, you will provide effective and efficient administrative support to the Environmental Services Unit (ESU) across the entirety of the food, alcohol, and health regulatory functions. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate, accessible, and up-to-date records, processing enquiries and applications, and supporting licensing and registration activities for food businesses, alcohol licensing, alcohol licences and certificates, and premises regulated under the Health Act.

Working closely with the Environmental Health Team Leader and wider team, you will help ensure the food, alcohol, and health registration systems operate efficiently, meet deadlines, deliver excellent customer service, and remain compliant with relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain Waimakariri District Council systems related to ESU activities and services.

  • Support the Environmental Health Team Leader in delivering in-house regulatory services and assist in meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).

  • Ensure timely and accurate registration of businesses and premises under relevant Acts.

  • Provide administrative support and guidance to staff on procedures and systems.

  • Fulfil reporting and documentation requirements.

  • Participate in corporate projects and inter-departmental initiatives.

  • Implement and improve systems and processes for environmental health registration and infringement notice compliance.

  • Ensure all procedures are well-documented and aligned with best practice.

  • Participate in Civil Defence training programmes, exercises and responses.

  • Proficiency in using technology and systems to manage records and processes.

  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and customer service.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in administration, preferably in a regulatory or local government environment.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to cope with changing priorities and deadlines.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in using technology and systems to manage records and processes.

  • A proactive approach to continuous learning, improvement and customer service.

  • Familiarity with relevant legislation such as the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act (2012), the Food Act (2014), and the Health Act (1956) would also be advantageous.

Why Join Us?

You’ll be part of a supportive team that values collaboration, innovation, and service excellence. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing of our community through effective administration of environmental services.

  • Enjoy flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance.

  • Many training and development opportunities.

  • Work in a role that values innovation, accuracy, and service excellence.
