Equipment Enabling Engineer

Hong Kong Microelectronics Research and Development Institute (MRDI) is established to seize the huge potential market for third-generation semiconductors and align with the national strategy for technological development.

The vision is for the MRDI to play a leading role in strengthening collaboration with the industry, academia, and research sectors, expediting the "1 to N" transformation of scientific research outcomes, promoting technological innovation, and assisting the industry in enhancing efficiency as well as achieving upgrading and transformation.

The MRDI is looking for a dynamic and high-calibre professional to fill the position of Equipment Enabling Engineer to join our team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Equipment & process optimization: Analyse the interaction between hardware capability and process physical limits; drive recipe tuning and hardware adjustment to expand process windows and operational margin.

• Equipment diagnostics & upgrade: Apply in-depth knowledge of tool architecture to propose, qualify, and execute hardware modification and upgrade plans supporting advanced process development, working with OEM partners.

• Root cause analysis: Investigate defect and yield excursions, separate equipment-driven from process-driven contributors, and close issues with systematic root cause analysis.

• Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with R&D and Fab operations to translate tool-process interaction know-how into new process capability.

REQUIREMENTS

• A master's degree or above in Microelectronics, Electrical / Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or related disciplines.
• At least 2 years of experience in semiconductor equipment engineering, process development. Fresh Master's or PhD graduates with relevant experience are also considered.
• Working knowledge of semiconductor process flow and key modules; hands-on lithography experience preferred.
• Solid foundation in numerical simulation, mathematical modelling, or data analysis; experience integrating physics-based models with AI/ML methods is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to work independently and contribute to cross-functional projects.
• Professional proficiency in English and Mandarin; Cantonese is a plus.

Note: The actual rank and position offered will be commensurate with the applicant's qualifications and experience.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A gratuity of 15% of the salary will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of the contract. The incumbent will normally work five days a week. The initial employment contract spans 12 months and can be renewed with a longer tenure upon mutual agreement of the incumbent and MRDI.
