We are looking for a safety-minded Equipment Operator who takes pride in operating equipment responsibly, keeping materials moving efficiently, and maintaining a clean, organized, and productive job site.

Traine Construction & Development develops, builds, and owns multi-family rental communities across Canada. This position will support our new wood-frame multi-family community in Whitby, Ontario.

The Role

Reporting to the Site Superintendent, the Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of telehandlers/zoom booms, skid steers, and other site equipment.

You will play an important role in accepting and managing deliveries, coordinating the movement and placement of materials, maintaining site organization, caring for equipment, and supporting the construction team as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate telehandlers/zoom booms, skid steers, and other construction equipment to load, unload, move, and place materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Accept and manage deliveries, ensuring incoming materials are safely unloaded and efficiently distributed to the appropriate areas of the job site.
  • Inspect incoming materials, verify deliveries against shipping documentation, and maintain accurate delivery and material records.
  • Report missing, damaged, or incorrect materials and anticipated material shortages to the Site Superintendent.
  • Communicate and coordinate with trades, delivery drivers, and the site team to support safe and efficient material movement.
  • Read and interpret site plans, drawings, and specifications to support accurate material placement and site activities.
  • Provide traffic control and spotting/signalling as required for the safe movement of equipment, deliveries, and materials.
  • Maintain site organization, including material storage areas, access routes, laydown areas, and general work areas.
  • Conduct routine equipment inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and minor maintenance, and immediately report equipment defects or safety concerns.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas by removing debris, waste, and potential hazards.
  • Operate hand and power tools and other site equipment as required.
  • Assist carpenters, labourers, and other site workers as required to keep site operations moving efficiently.
  • Follow all company safety requirements, site procedures, and applicable occupational health and safety requirements.

What You Bring

  • Previous construction equipment operating experience is a strong asset, preferably in multi-family residential or commercial construction.
  • Experience operating a telehandler/zoom boom and skid steer.
  • Telehandler and skid steer certifications are preferred at the time of hire and must be obtained within the probationary period.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Current First Aid certification is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of safe equipment operation, lifting practices, material handling, and construction-site safety.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to complete basic equipment inspections and minor maintenance.
  • Ability to read and understand site plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong communication, organization, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Dependable, flexible, safety-focused, and comfortable working as part of a busy construction team.

Work Conditions

This is an active, hands-on construction role. You must be comfortable:

  • Working indoors and outdoors throughout the year in varying weather conditions.
  • Working around moving equipment, construction activity, noise, dust, and other typical job-site hazards.
  • Performing physically demanding work and repeatedly lifting materials weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Working overtime and weekends when required by project schedules.
  • Travelling to the assigned job site(s) as required.

What We Offer

In return for your hard work and dedication, you will receive a competitive wage based on experience and a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Annual discretionary bonus
  • Shared Win Program
