Polonsky & Associates Inc.

Salary: $143,000 - $163,000 annually
A Southern California hospital is seeking an experienced RN Clinical Educator to support both the Emergency Department, ICU, and DOU, with a strong focus on clinical readiness, advanced education, competency development, and high-acuity emergency care.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ER nurse who loves education, mentoring, simulation, and developing clinical teams. The strongest candidate will bring experience in both Emergency and Critical Care, with the ability to build confidence and competency across two of the hospital’s highest-acuity service lines.
You’ll report directly to an experienced, hardworking Assistant Chief Nursing Officer who also oversees the Emergency Department and comes from an ED background herself. She understands the realities of emergency nursing, is highly engaged operationally, and will be a strong clinical partner for this position.
The CNO is also all about creating "psychological safety" amongst her staff, making sure everyone has a voice and everyone gets a chance to express themselves and be cultivated.
The Opportunity
This role leads education across the Emergency Department, ICU, and DOU, including structured orientation, ongoing in-services, mock codes, annual competencies, and advanced critical care training.
You’ll have the opportunity to directly influence clinical readiness, patient safety, ED throughput, protocol adherence, and outcomes across both departments.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and oversee ED, DOU, and ICU orientation programs for new clinical staff.

Participate in hospital-wide new employee orientation.

Provide ongoing education around sepsis, stroke, STEMI, trauma, and other high-acuity protocols.

Lead Code Blue, Rapid Response, Stroke, and Massive Transfusion mock drills.

Coordinate annual competency validation and critical care skills fairs.

Provide advanced education in ventilator management, titratable drips, and hemodynamic monitoring.

Monitor performance related to sepsis bundles, door-to-needle benchmarks, and protocol compliance.

Partner with nursing and interdisciplinary leadership on quality and performance improvement initiatives.

Maintain education records and documentation required for regulatory and accreditation readiness.

Background

Current California RN license required.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.

Emergency Department experience is required.

Candidates with both ER and ICU experience are preferred.

Previous experience in clinical education, precepting, simulation, or nursing leadership is highly desirable.

BLS and ACLS required.

CCRN preferred and required within 6 months of hire.

MSN or related healthcare Master’s degree preferred.

Comfortable working within a union environment.

Why This Role Stands Out

Direct partnership with an experienced ACNO who knows Emergency Services firsthand.

High-impact role supporting both the ED, ICU, and DOU.

Opportunity to shape orientation, competencies, simulation, and advanced clinical education.

This is an ideal step up for someone who wants to get into education as educator experience is not required.

Ability to directly influence clinical readiness, patient outcomes, throughput, and performance improvement.

Multiple growth opportunities in a rapidly expanding organization

If you are an experienced Emergency Department RN with a passion for developing nurses and elevating clinical practice—and especially if you also bring ICU experience—this is an opportunity worth exploring.
