Job Description: ESG Consultant, Build to Sustain

Location: Kozhikode, Kerala, with travel to client sites

Type: Full-time | Remote

About us

Build to Sustain is an ESG consulting firm. We help mid-sized businesses in India and the Gulf understand where they stand on sustainability and what to do about it. Most of our clients are manufacturers, exporters and hospital groups who are hearing about ESG from their customers, investors or regulators and need someone to make sense of it for them.

What you will do

You will take client projects from the first assessment through to the final report. On a typical project that means visiting the client, sitting with their operations, finance and purchasing teams, collecting the data, working out what it says and then helping the client act on it.

Day to day, you will:

· Assess clients using the SIM framework and walk their leadership through the results

· Work out what ESG topics matter most for each client and build a roadmap with clear targets and owners

· Collect ESG data from client teams and their suppliers, and check that it holds up

· Calculate Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions using the GHG Protocol

· Write sustainability reports in line with BRSR, GRI or whatever the client needs

· Help hospital clients meet NABH sustainability requirements

· Run supplier assessments and rating programmes

· Spot government subsidies and incentives that can pay for part of a client's ESG spend

· Keep up with rule changes in India, the GCC and the EU (CBAM in particular) and tell clients what it means for them

· Pitch in on proposals and help us improve our own tools and templates

What we are looking for

· A degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, management or something close to it

· 2 to 5 years in ESG or sustainability work, either at a consultancy or inside a company

· You have worked on BRSR or GRI reports before

· You have done GHG calculations yourself, not just reviewed them

· You are good with Excel and do not panic when the data is messy or half missing

· You write and speak English clearly

· You can explain the same thing to a plant manager and to a board member

· You are happy to travel to client sites in Kerala, elsewhere in India and sometimes the Gulf

Nice to have

· A GRI, ISO 14064 or ISO 14001 lead auditor certification

· Some exposure to assurance work (ISAE 3000 or AA1000AS)

· Knowledge of CBAM, CDP, EcoVadis, IFRS S1 and S2, or SBTi

· Experience with manufacturing, export or healthcare clients

· Malayalam or Hindi
