Job Title: Estimating Assistant

The Estimating Assistant: You'll learn to build quotes for large-scale, custom ironwork projects by working directly under our lead estimator — pulling takeoffs from prints, building estimates in our quoting tools, and tracking every quote from first request to signed order. This is a training position. We're not looking for estimating experience — we're looking for someone hungry to learn the craft and grow into a Sales/Estimator role.

As Estimating Assistant, you'll work side by side with Stephen, our lead estimator, on the obscure, one-off jobs that don't fit a standard template — the ones that take real judgment to price right. You'll also keep every quote moving: talking with clients, coordinating with our project coordinator, and keeping Zoho CRM current so nothing falls through the cracks.

We are a 20+ employee fabrication shop with a 30+ year reputation for fabricating stairs - curved, spiral, and straight, as well as railing - for commercial and residential customers near and far using stainless, aluminum, and steel/iron. Our precision work and customer satisfaction speaks for itself. We've built strong relationships with repeat customers and enjoy steady, profitable work. Our team includes skilled fabricators, installers, and office staff who care about doing work right. We're stable, growing, and building out our sales and estimating team to support increased sales.

Compensation:

$19.50 - $22.85 per hour DOE, with a clear path to our Sales/Estimator compensation plan (base pay plus commission) as you grow into that role.

Responsibilities - Estimating & Quote Building (50% of your time):

• Pull material takeoffs from prints and shop drawings
• Enter line items into our quoting tools, including the CASCO Quoting Tool (Google Sheets)
• Help build custom, one-off quotes for large or unusual jobs that don't fit an existing tool or template
• Work directly with Stephen on complex and custom jobs to learn how pricing judgment calls get made
• Research and track down vendor/material pricing as needed for a quote

Responsibilities - Client & Project Communication (25% of your time):

• Communicate with clients on quote status, clarifying questions, and timelines
• Coordinate with our Project Coordinator to keep quotes aligned with what's actually happening on active jobs
• Track every quote's progress from request through signed order, flagging anything stuck or overdue

Responsibilities - CRM & Administrative Tracking (15% of your time):

• Keep Zoho CRM accurate and current for every quote and account you touch
• Maintain organized, easy-to-find records so anyone on the team can see where a quote stands

Responsibilities - Learning & Development (10% of your time):

• Shadow Stephen on large, custom, and technically obscure jobs to learn estimating judgment that isn't written down anywhere
• Build toward taking on your own book of business as a Sales/Estimator

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Michigan driver's license
• Comfortable in Google Sheets/Excel and Google Docs — basic formulas, data entry, and navigating a spreadsheet confidently
• Strong attention to detail and comfort working with numbers
• Spatial reasoning — able to look at a print or drawing and picture the physical piece it describes
• A genuinely hungry, coachable attitude — this role is built around being trained from the ground up

Preferred Experiences:

• Some time in or around the construction industry (field, shop, or office) — estimating experience is not required or expected
• Familiarity with reading blueprints or shop drawings
• Experience with a CRM or project-tracking software (Zoho or similar)

Experience:

• Construction industry exposure: Preferred, not required
• Estimating: None required — this is a trained-from-zero position

Work Location: In person, 5 days per week, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM. No weekends.

Pay: $19.50 - $22.85 per hour
