Key Responsibilities

  • Drawing Interpretation: Accurately interpret aerospace engineering drawings, GD&T, CAD models, and BOMs to determine machining and process requirements.
  • RFQ Analysis: Review customer RFQs, specifications, and models to assess feasibility.
  • Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost breakdowns including raw materials, machining hours, tooling, jigs & fixtures, plating, heat treatment, NDT, and quality inspection.
  • Process Planning: Define manufacturing processes in collaboration with design & production teams for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Vendor Coordination: Work with suppliers for input on raw materials, special processes, and sub-contract costs.
  • Quotations: Prepare competitive cost proposals and ensure timely submission.
  • Database Management: Maintain a repository of historical costing data and standard price templates.
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Provide feedback to improve manufacturability while ensuring quality standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with sales, design, and shopfloor teams to ensure accuracy in cost models.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for cost reduction, cycle-time improvement, and lean execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma OR B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Aeronautical, or related engineering discipline.
  • 2–5 years of experience in estimation, costing, or design engineering within aerospace machining / precision components.
  • Proven ability in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, and aerospace standards.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (CATIA, SolidWorks, NX) for drawing & model interpretation.
  • Strong knowledge of aerospace materials (Aluminum, Titanium, Stainless Steel, Inconel, etc.) and machining processes.
  • Strong MS Excel and costing template skills; experience with ERP systems is a plus.

Preferred Attributes

  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards.
  • Experience in special processes (heat treatment, plating, surface finishing, NDT).
  • Good analytical and negotiation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong accuracy in cost estimation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
