Estimator - Civil Construction

A well-established civil contractor with a strong reputation across the Waikato region are seeking an experienced Intermediate Estimator to join their Hamilton-based team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an established estimator to step into a role with genuine autonomy, working across a varied pipeline of civil projects while providing guidance and support to two junior estimators.

About the Role

You will take ownership of the full estimating process for civil construction projects, from initial enquiry through to tender submission. You'll bring your NZ civil construction knowledge to accurately price projects, while also acting as a mentor and technical point of reference for the junior members of the estimating team.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing accurate and competitive estimates and tenders for civil construction projects
• Measuring and valuing civil works including earthworks, drainage, roading, and utilities
• Analysing drawings, specifications, and contract documents to scope works
• Sourcing and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotes
• Quantity take-offs and cost planning across a range of civil works
• Identifying risks and opportunities within tender documentation
• Supporting, reviewing, and upskilling two junior estimators
• Liaising with clients, subcontractors, and internal project teams throughout the tender process
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of estimating processes and systems

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have:

• 5+ years' estimating experience within civil construction, gained in New Zealand (essential)
• Strong understanding of NZ civil construction methods, contracts, and standard forms (NZS3910 or similar)
• Proven ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines with a high level of accuracy
• Confidence mentoring and guiding junior team members
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and subcontractors
• Strong numeracy and analytical skills, with high attention to detail
