Estimator

The Butz Family of Companies seeks an Estimator for Alvin H. Butz. located in Allentown, Pennsylvania. This individual will work with our project teams to prepare estimates at all phases of the design, bid packages, GMPs, analysis of subcontractor bids, participate in project pursuits including proposal development and interviews. Estimators interface with owners, A/E firms, and contractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility. Responsibilities

• Review project documentation on assigned line items
• Develop working knowledge of project
• Prepare detailed estimates at all stages of documentation, including conceptual, schematic, design development, and final estimates
• Analyze data developed from estimates and make discretionary decisions developed from that data
• Review estimate format requirements with Project Team lead prior to finalizing estimates
• Provide estimating support to Project team on negotiated projects
• Review design options, evaluate status of documentation, perform cost analyses and value engineering, and make recommendations based upon experience as well as labor and materials availability
• Prepare Bidder Lists and Bid Documentation including detailed Scopes of Work for assigned items
• Attend Prebid Meetings and issue appropriate addenda
• Receive and analyze bids, interview bidders, and make appropriate recommendations
• Negotiate and purchase subcontracts
• Prepare cost data for input into estimating data base
• Conduct constructability reviews
• Perform additional assignments as directed by Manager

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering or related discipline, or equivalent combination of technical training and experience. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in estimating or five years in the building construction industry. Knowledge of computerized estimating systems and cost data bases and word processing software.
