Job Advert

As an Estimator, you will prepare and develop estimates and contract proposals for a varied range of civil engineering projects. Based predominantly at our head office in Ruthin, with visits to sites as required, you will report directly to the Lead Estimator.

You will join a collaborative team where practical thinking, initiative and problem-solving are valued. With exposure to a wide range of civil engineering projects and the wider pre-construction process, you will have the opportunity to develop your estimating knowledge, broaden your experience and take on increasing levels of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing tender information and reviewing contract requirements.
  • Developing resource-based estimates from drawings, specifications, programmes and other tender information.
  • Obtaining, reviewing and assessing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Producing take-offs, bills of quantities and robust bid submissions.
  • Identifying tender risks, opportunities and wider commercial considerations.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the business to develop competitive, accurate and well-supported proposals.

What We’re Looking For

We are interested in hearing from candidates with a range of backgrounds and levels of experience. You do not need to meet every requirement below; if you have relevant estimating, commercial or civil engineering experience and are keen to develop your career, we would encourage you to apply.

  • Relevant experience in estimating, quantity surveying, commercial management or a related role.
  • The ability to review tender information and develop robust and accurate estimates.
  • A practical understanding of civil engineering construction methods, resources and costs.
  • Confidence using estimating software, or the willingness and ability to learn new systems.
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Clear and effective communication skills when working with colleagues, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • A relevant qualification would be welcomed, but practical experience and alternative routes into the profession are equally valued.

Desirable Skills and Experience

The following experience would be advantageous but is not essential, and we can support the right candidate to develop in these areas:

  • Experience across civil engineering sectors such as highways, earthworks, drainage, structures or marine works.
  • Familiarity with recognised Methods of Measurement, such as CESMM or MCHW.
  • Previous experience using take-off, estimating or other construction software.
  • Previous experience working with NEC contracts.
  • Experience tendering for larger or more complex civil engineering projects.

We recognise that strong candidates may not have experience in every area listed. If the role interests you and you believe your skills could contribute to our pre-construction team, we would encourage you to apply.

What You’ll Get in Return

We offer the opportunity to develop an interesting and rewarding career within a progressive and successful business. You can expect:

  • A competitive salary.
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including a company pension.
  • Flexible working arrangements, including some remote working, alongside opportunities to visit our projects and sites as required.
  • The opportunity to work on a variety of civil engineering projects.
  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • Support for further professional training, development and career progressi
