What they need

About the Position

Pond is seeking an Engineering Estimator to join our growing Energy team in Bogotá, Colombia. In this role, you will support oil & gas engineering projects for clients across the United States by developing accurate and competitive manhour estimates for proposals, budgets, change orders, and project planning.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in engineering estimating, project controls, engineering design, project management, or a related professional-services environment. Experience estimating engineering manhours for oil & gas facilities, tanks and terminals, and pipeline projects is preferred. This is an excellent opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and contribute to project planning and successful execution across a variety of energy projects.

Essential Job Duties

  • Develop detailed engineering manhour estimates for proposals, budgets, work authorizations, change orders, and internal planning activities.
  • Review requests for proposals, scopes of work, drawings, specifications, schedules, and other technical documents to establish estimating requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineering discipline leads, project managers, technical leaders, and business development teams to validate project scope, deliverables, staffing, and execution strategies.
  • Prepare estimate work breakdown structures by discipline, project phase, deliverable, activity, and milestone.
  • Apply historical project data, productivity factors, benchmarking, engineering judgment, and company standards to develop accurate and defensible labor-hour estimates.
  • Document estimate assumptions, exclusions, clarifications, risks, constraints, and the basis of estimate.
  • Evaluate project schedules, staffing plans, workload requirements, and resource availability to support realistic project execution plans.
  • Review estimates with discipline leads and project management, reconcile differences, and incorporate approved feedback before submission.
  • Support the development of engineering estimates and proposal deliverables in coordination with project controls and business development teams.
  • Maintain and improve estimating templates, databases, productivity factors, historical project information, and lessons learned.
  • Assist with estimate-to-actual reviews and recommend improvements to estimating methods, productivity assumptions, and project forecasting.
  • Prepare change-order estimates and evaluate scope growth by identifying impacts to labor hours, disciplines, deliverables, schedules, and project risks.
  • Present estimates and the basis of estimate to leadership, project teams, and clients as needed.
  • Utilize available AI tools to support preliminary estimating, improve efficiency, and enhance estimating workflows.
  • Ensure estimates are complete, accurate, internally consistent, and submitted in accordance with company procedures and client requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering estimating, project controls, engineering project management, design, or a related professional-services environment.
  • Experience interpreting engineering scopes, technical documents, project schedules, and deliverable requirements to develop labor-hour estimates.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment when project information is incomplete.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, linked worksheets, estimate checks, and client-specific pricing outputs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with engineering deliverables, work breakdown structures, labor-rate application, and project cost reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and explain estimating assumptions.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple estimates, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience with estimating, project controls, scheduling, ERP, resource planning, or professional-services software is strongly preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • English proficiency at C1 level or higher is required to effectively support U.S.-based projects, teams, and clients.
  • Must be comfortable working in a U.S.-based project environment, including communicating directly with U.S. colleagues and participating in project and estimating review meetings.
  • Ability to review technical documents and prepare, present, and discuss estimates and supporting documentation in English.
  • Experience preparing engineering manhour estimates for oil & gas facilities, tanks and terminals, and pipeline projects is preferred.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple engineering disciplines and supporting different project delivery methods is highly desirable.
  • Experience using AI tools to support preliminary estimates and improve estimating efficiency is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with U.S.-based engineering teams, project managers, project controls, and business development personnel across time zones.
  • Must be detail oriented, proactive, and capable of working independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.
  • Position is primarily office based and requires regular computer use.
