Our client is recruiting an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to join their team. You will prepare accurate, competitive estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection projects , working closely with management, project managers, detailers, suppliers and general contractors.

Responsibilities

• Complete detailed material takeoffs from contract drawings and specifications.
• Prepare cost estimates, quotations and budgets for structural steel fabrication and erection projects.
• Interpret drawings to determine steel types, quantities, grades and fabrication requirements.
• Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations, including joist, deck and other purchased packages.
• Negotiate pricing and confirm quotations cover the required scope of work.
• Work with operations and shop teams to ensure estimates accurately reflect fabrication and erection methods.
• Prepare and submit complete bid packages within agreed deadlines.
• Review and price project changes and drawing addenda.
• Monitor structural steel material pricing and relevant market developments.

Skills

• An associate’s degree in Construction Management, Civil/Structural Engineering or a related field, or 2–5 years of relevant experience and training , or an equivalent combination.
• Strong knowledge of structural steel systems, fabrication methods and erection processes .
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, architectural drawings and project specifications.
• Experience completing accurate material takeoffs for structural and miscellaneous steel.
• Experience estimating miscellaneous architectural steel is advantageous.
• Ability or willingness to learn estimating for stairs, guardrails and handrails , including conceptual budgets.
• Willingness to spend 4–6 weeks in the fabrication shop learning the manufacturing process.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software ; experience with Bluebeam, Tekla or SDS/2 is advantageous.
• Strong mathematical skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple bids.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
