Adderstone Civils is the civil engineering arm of Adderstone Group, which is headquartered in Newcastle upon Tyne. The business delivers groundworks, infrastructure and civil engineering projects for a wide range of public and private sector clients. That work includes maintaining infrastructure that keeps UK trade moving.

The business is growing, and the pipeline of work is growing with it. This role is central to how that work is won.

The role

This is a role with real responsibility. You’ll manage tenders from initial enquiry through to submission and handover, and your estimates will play a direct part in which projects the business wins.

You’ll work closely with senior management and the commercial and operational teams, and you’ll liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors throughout the tender process.

What you’ll do

• Take ownership of tenders from initial enquiry through to submission and handover to the delivery team
• Build accurate, competitive estimates from first principles
• Produce take-offs and rate build-ups
• Obtain, assess and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Identify risks and opportunities in tender documents and advise on how to price them
• Work with senior colleagues to agree bid strategy and final pricing
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, consultants and the supply chain

What we’re looking for

• At least five years’ relevant experience
• A civil engineering background, ideally in estimating
• Strong first-principles estimating skills
• Confidence with take-offs, rate build-ups and supplier and subcontractor quotations
• The judgement to know when a price is right, and the confidence to say so
• Based in the North East
