Summary Estimator - General Construction

Prepares complete estimates for assigned project(s) of medium size and complexity either directly or through subordinate personnel.

Specific Responsibilities Estimator - General Construction

• Analyzes Addenda and creates addenda analysis document.
• Assists in Value Engineering.
• Prepares Bid Summaries; assists in selecting the appropriate subcontractor bidding team.
• Creates spreadsheets for comparative analysis.
• Accurately digitizes and quantifies from drawings.
• Becomes thoroughly familiar with respective work scopes as it relates to each specific project.
• Ensures that all work scopes are complete and accounted for in the estimate.
• Maintains active communication with respective subcontractors that are participating in a bid to assure that subs have received all bid documents.
• Assures all correspondence and/or addenda is distributed.
• Orders plans and specifications. Arranges for electronic data to be available for bidding.
• Organizes the project estimate filing system.
• Prepares detailed scopes per trade to assure each submittal/vendors bid is complete.
• Prepares and coordinates bid packages for the various trades as assigned.
• Ensures that bid packages are properly distributed.
• Reviews change orders as necessary.
• Ensures that all specified manufacturers and products are accounted for, that those products are not single source products, and that bids will be received from those specified manufacturers or their distributors/vendors.
• Identifies discrepancies in the bid documents; prepares, reviews with lead and/or chief estimator, and submits drafts of Requests for Information (RFI) for clarification.
• Orders aerial or site photos.
• Reviews and understands Owner's Participation requirements (minorities, small business, local business, other) and ensures coverage from subcontractors.
• Reviews subcontractor and supplier quotes/proposals for completeness of scope, exclusions and inclusions, and all other statements in the proposal, to ensure the quotes are correct and adequate for inclusion in the estimate and for future buyout.
• Loads drawings into Smartbid and prepares invitation to bid for subcontractors as directed.
• Loads bid packages, addenda, and all other pertinent information for subcontractors into Smartbid and MCM's network and ensures proper distribution as directed.
• Assigns project number and creates project folders, both in Smartbid and MCM's computer network as directed.
• Creates Engineering File for each project assigned as directed. Organizes and maintains filing system.
• Performs additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
• Updates all databases, templates and all other reference data repositories, for future use.
• Identifies and suggests lessons learned and summarizes for discussion with all other staff.
• Compiles information for updating Procedures Manual, provides same to Chief Estimator for review and update of Manual.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills / Knowledge Estimator - General Construction

• Proficiency in estimating techniques and cost control, plus ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems essentials .
• Basic knowledge of the different types of project deliveries such as lump sum, design build, CM at Risk, and others, and their different methods of estimating .
• Ability to interpret information from drawings, specifications, exhibits, addenda, CPM schedules, design criteria documents and all other bid documents.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
• Proficiency in Timberline Estimating Module and OnScreen Take-off software.
• Good presentation and public speaking skills.
• Technical skills in cost engineering, engineering economy, basic accounting, basic financing.

Qualifications and Experience Estimator - General Construction

Entry Level or Junior Estimator - General Construction

• Enrollment in four (4) year Engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training.
• 1 - 4 years estimating, cost control, construction field experience and/or engineering experience in similar facility construction.

Estimator - General Construction

• Four (4) year Engineering degree or equivalent combinations technical training and/or related experience.
• 5 - 8 years estimating, cost control, and/or engineering experience (at least 4 years estimating experience) in similar facility construction.

Pay: $95,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
