About Shellen Security

Shellen Security is a leading passive fire protection specialist and doorset manufacturer, delivering high-quality fire safety solutions across the social housing and construction sectors.

With our own manufacturing facility and a growing pipeline of projects, we are looking for an experienced and driven Estimator to join our team and support the commercial side of the business.

The Role

As an Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates and quotations for fire doorsets, passive fire protection and associated works.

You will work closely with Business Development, Pre-Construction, Surveying, Production and Project Management to ensure projects are accurately priced, commercially viable and aligned with client requirements.

The role will involve reviewing enquiries, drawings, specifications and survey information, preparing detailed estimates and supporting the wider team with tenders, frameworks and new business opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Pricing

• Review incoming enquiries, specifications, drawings and schedules of work.
• Prepare accurate estimates and quotations for fire doorsets, passive fire protection and associated works.
• Complete take-offs and measurements from drawings, schedules and survey information.
• Obtain and assess material, labour and subcontractor costs.
• Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to ensure accurate and competitive pricing.
• Identify project requirements, exclusions, assumptions and potential risks.
• Ensure estimates are completed accurately and within required deadlines.
• Review and update quotations where project requirements change.

Pre-Construction & Project Planning

• Work closely with the Pre-Construction team to ensure projects are accurately assessed and priced.
• Review survey information, drawings and project requirements before pricing.
• Identify potential manufacturing, installation or logistical requirements at an early stage.
• Liaise with Production and Operations to ensure proposed works are deliverable within the quoted costs and timescales.
• Support a smooth handover from estimating through to pre-construction and project delivery.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure estimates are based on approved products, specifications and relevant certification.
• Maintain a good understanding of Shellen's products, systems and manufacturing processes.
• Identify any specification or compliance requirements that may affect project costs.
• Work with the technical and operational teams to ensure pricing reflects the required standards.

Key Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in an estimating or commercial role within construction, manufacturing, fire protection, doorsets or a related industry.
• Experience pricing construction or building-related works.
• Experience with working with Schedule’s of Rates, example NHMF SORs.
• Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications and schedules.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good commercial awareness and understanding of project costs.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work across multiple departments.
• Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to manage multiple enquiries and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing business.
• Experience within fire doors, passive fire protection, social housing or public sector projects
• would be highly advantageous.

• We are looking for someone who is organised, commercially minded and detail-focused, with the ability to take ownership of estimates from initial enquiry through to quotation.
• The ideal candidate will have experience within construction, manufacturing or a related sector and will be confident working with drawings, specifications, costs and project information.
• You will be comfortable managing multiple opportunities at once, working to deadlines and communicating with both internal teams and external suppliers.
• You will naturally look for ways to improve accuracy, efficiency and commercial performance while working collaboratively with the wider Shellen team.

Remuneration and Benefits Package

• £35,000 – £45,000 per annum, depending on experience
• Annual holiday allowance of 21 days plus Bank Holidays
• Holiday allowance rising by an additional day for each year of service, up to a maximum of 3 additional days
