What they need

About Division Ten Specialties

Division Ten Specialties Ltd. is a leading Division 10 subcontractor providing supply and installation services, and a trusted source of architectural specialties across the Maritimes. Our product lines include washroom accessories, partitions, lockers, operable walls, visual display boards, wall protection, and other specialty construction products used in schools, healthcare facilities, arenas, commercial buildings, and institutional projects.

We are a growth-focused, process-driven company. We believe strong, accountable people create strong operations, and we invest in personal development, practical exposure across the business, and clear opportunities for progression based on performance and initiative.

This is not strictly a desk estimating position. The successful candidate will estimate projects, develop local contractor relationships, identify opportunities, and represent Division Ten in the market.

Position Overview

Division Ten Specialties is seeking a highly motivated Business Development Estimator based in the Halifax Regional Municipality. This role is suited to someone who is already active in Nova Scotia’s construction industry and has established relationships with general contractors, project managers, estimators, consultants, architects, or developers in the region.

Estimating and bidding projects as a subcontractor will be a major part of the role. Just as important will be the ability to be a go-getter: building relationships, finding opportunities, following up consistently, and helping Division Ten expand its presence across Atlantic Canada.

Most of the estimating, project management, and support team will be located outside Halifax and Nova Scotia. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently, communicating proactively, managing priorities, and staying connected with a geographically distributed team.

Key Responsibilities

· Review project plans, specifications, addenda, and tender documents to prepare accurate estimates.

· Identify, track, and pursue commercial and institutional bidding opportunities throughout Nova Scotia.

· Develop and maintain relationships with general contractors, construction managers, consultants, architects, and other industry contacts.

· Use existing local relationships to create introductions, strengthen awareness of Division Ten, and uncover upcoming work.

· Prepare scope reviews, takeoffs, quotations, proposal submissions, clarifications, assumptions, and exclusions.

· Coordinate with manufacturers and suppliers to obtain pricing, lead times, product information, and technical support.

· Follow up on submitted quotations and gather useful feedback on bid results and award decisions.

· Attend local project meetings, site visits, networking events, and industry functions when appropriate.

· Share market intelligence and upcoming project information with the broader estimating and management team.

· Support a clear handoff from estimating to project management when work is awarded.

· Maintain organized records of opportunities, client communication, bids, follow-ups, and outcomes.

· Represent Division Ten Specialties professionally throughout the Nova Scotia construction market.

Skills & QualificationsRequired

· 3-5 years of relevant experience in construction estimating, project management, sales, business development, or a related construction role or trade.

· Established relationships or a proven network within Nova Scotia’s commercial construction industry, particularly with general contractors.

· Active experience in the construction field and a practical understanding of commercial or institutional projects.

· Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable generating opportunities rather than waiting for work to be assigned.

· Ability to work independently with limited day-to-day supervision while remaining accountable to team goals and deadlines.

· Strong communication and relationship-building skills, including confidence making calls and meeting contacts in person.

· Ability to read construction drawings and specifications and understand project scope.

· Strong organization, follow-up, time management, and attention to detail.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort learning construction estimating and project-tracking tools.

Preferred

· Experience with Division Ten product lines (as shown on our website) or architectural specialties.

· Previous experience working for a subcontractor, supplier, or general contractor.

· Knowledge of washroom accessories, partitions, lockers, operable walls, access hatches, visual display boards, or wall protection.

· Understanding of public and private tendering processes in Nova Scotia.

· Experience using online bid platforms and project databases to identify and track opportunities.

What Success Looks Like

· Accurate, complete, and competitive estimates are submitted on time.

· Division Ten becomes more visible and better connected within the construction market.

· New opportunities are identified early and followed through consistently.

· Existing general contractor relationships are strengthened and new relationships are developed.

· The Halifax-based role stays closely aligned with the remote estimating and project management team.

· The successful candidate takes ownership of their territory, workload, communication, and results.

What We Offer

· Competitive salary and benefits package.

· Flexible remote and field-based working arrangement.

· Training on Division Ten products, systems, estimating standards, and internal processes.

· Professional development and growth opportunities tied to performance and initiative.

· The opportunity to play a direct role in expanding Division Ten’s presence across Atlantic Canada.

· Support from an experienced estimating, project management, and operations team.
