What they need

Event & Installation Technician

Location: Rochester, Kent – UK-wide travel required
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Salary: £32,000–£35,000 per year, depending on experience
Hours: Full-time, annualised hours, with opportunity for overtime

Please note: A full UK driving licence and confidence driving large vans is essential for this position.

About SingPods

SingPods provides interactive karaoke experiences to venues and events across the UK and internationally.

Our karaoke booths, arcade systems and room installations can be found in major leisure and hospitality venues, as well as at corporate events, brand activations and exhibitions.

We're looking for Event & Installation Technicians to join our growing team based in Rochester, Kent.

This is a hands-on, varied role for someone who enjoys practical work, technology, events and being out on the road. If you're looking for a job where every day is exactly the same, this probably isn't it!

The role

You'll be responsible for helping deliver, install, maintain and support our SingPods systems across the UK.

One week you could be installing new SingPods at a major leisure venue, the next setting up for a corporate event or exhibition, carrying out maintenance at an existing site or preparing equipment at our Rochester warehouse.

The role combines installations, live events, technical troubleshooting and maintenance, so we're looking for someone who is practical, technically confident and comfortable solving problems.

You don't need specialist karaoke experience – we'll provide full training on our equipment and systems.

However, you should already be comfortable using tools, working with technology and troubleshooting basic technical issues.

What you'll be doing

  • Installing SingPods and associated equipment at venues across the UK
  • Delivering, setting up and derigging SingPods for corporate events, exhibitions and activations
  • Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance at existing venues
  • Diagnosing and resolving technical faults
  • Working with PCs, touchscreens, TVs, speakers, microphones and other AV equipment
  • Carrying out basic hardware repairs and component replacements
  • Preparing, testing and packing equipment before installations and events
  • Loading and unloading equipment and vehicles
  • Driving company vans to venues and events throughout the UK
  • Completing installation and maintenance documentation
  • Liaising professionally with venue teams, clients and event organisers while onsite
  • Supporting the wider technical and operations team
  • Keeping equipment, tools, vehicles and work areas organised and maintained

Working hours

This is a full-time role operating on an annualised-hours basis, rather than a standard 9–5 or fixed 40-hour working week.

Working hours will vary depending on our events and installation schedule. Some weeks will naturally be busier than others, with quieter periods following particularly busy schedules.

The role will include some early starts, late finishes, evenings and weekends, as well as occasional overnight stays when working away from home.

Additional overtime may also be available during particularly busy periods.

When you're not onsite at an event, installation or maintenance visit, you'll generally work from our Rochester warehouse preparing equipment and supporting upcoming projects.

About you

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is practical and enjoys hands-on work
  • Has good basic technical knowledge
  • Is confident troubleshooting and solving problems
  • Is comfortable working with computers, AV equipment and electronics
  • Is confident using hand and power tools
  • Takes pride in completing work to a high standard
  • Is reliable, organised and able to work independently
  • Works well as part of a team
  • Is comfortable with physical work, including loading, unloading and installing equipment
  • Is professional and confident when dealing with customers, venue teams and event organisers
  • Is happy to travel regularly throughout the UK
  • Is comfortable staying away from home occasionally
  • Is flexible around working hours due to the nature of events and installations

Essential requirements

  • Full, valid UK driving licence
  • Confident and experienced driving large vans
  • Comfortable driving long distances throughout the UK
  • Comfortable driving fully loaded work vehicles safely and responsibly
  • Basic technical and IT knowledge
  • Experience using hand and power tools
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to carry out physical work safely
  • Flexibility around working hours and UK travel

A clean driving licence is preferred, although applicants with minor points may still be considered.

Desirable experience

Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:

  • AV or audio equipment
  • Live events
  • Event production
  • Technical installations
  • Field service or maintenance
  • Exhibition or stand installation
  • Hospitality or leisure venue installations
  • PCs and basic networking
  • Electrical/electronic equipment

You don't need to tick every box. We're particularly interested in finding people who are practical, reliable, technically minded and keen to learn.

What we offer

  • £32,000–£35,000 per year, depending on experience
  • Full-time permanent position
  • Annualised working hours to reflect the nature of our events and installations
  • Opportunity for additional overtime
  • Company vehicle provided for work-related travel where required
  • Travel and accommodation covered when working away from home
  • Full training on our equipment and systems
  • Holiday entitlement
  • Workplace pension
  • Varied work across installations, live events and maintenance
  • Opportunity to develop your technical and installation skills
  • The opportunity to work with major hospitality, leisure, event and entertainment brands across the UK and internationally

If you're technically minded, enjoy practical work and like the idea of a role where no two weeks are exactly the same, we'd love to hear from you.

Please note that a full UK driving licence and the ability to confidently drive large vans is essential for this role.
