What they need

Initial 3-Month Self-Employed Contract
Northamptonshire based | Regular travel, predominantly London

Yellow Bus Catering is looking for a reliable, hands-on Freelance Event Supervisor to join us for our busy festive season.

We're an independent event catering company operating American school bus catering units at festivals, corporate events and large public events across the UK.

We've got a busy festive period ahead, including a number of events in London, and we're looking for someone who can take responsibility for running events and supervising our teams without the owner needing to be at every event.

This isn't an office-based management role. You'll be right in the middle of the operation — driving vans, setting up, supervising staff, serving customers when needed and making sure everything gets done properly.

What you'll be doing

  • Taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of events
  • Supervising and organising our event staff
  • Driving company vans to and from events
  • Loading and unloading equipment and stock
  • Setting up and closing down catering units
  • Making sure everything is ready for service
  • Keeping service running smoothly during busy periods
  • Ensuring food hygiene and safety procedures are followed
  • Completing basic operational and food-safety checks
  • Keeping an eye on stock levels and communicating what is needed
  • Dealing with event organisers and customers where necessary
  • Helping out wherever needed during service
  • Sorting out the little problems that inevitably happen at live events!

We're a small business, so we're looking for someone who is happy to get stuck in. There will be times when you're supervising the team and times when you're making burgers, serving customers, cleaning down or shifting boxes.

What we're looking for

You must:

  • Be 25 or over due to our vehicle insurance requirements
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
  • Be confident driving vans, including longer journeys and driving into London
  • Be reliable and organised
  • Be confident supervising a small team
  • Be comfortable taking responsibility when the owner isn't on site
  • Be happy working evenings and weekends when required
  • Be comfortable with a varied event schedule
  • Stay calm and use common sense when things don't go exactly to plan

Previous experience in hospitality, catering, events, festivals, food trucks or similar environments would be ideal.

You don't need to be a career restaurant manager. We're more interested in finding someone reliable, practical, good with people and capable of taking ownership of an event.

Pay & Contract

£2,200 per month

This is an initial 3-month self-employed contract covering our festive event programme.

The event schedule varies from week to week, so this isn't a conventional Monday-Friday, 9-5 position. Some weeks will naturally be busier than others.

A significant amount of the work will involve travelling from Northamptonshire to events in London, alongside events elsewhere in the UK.

Company vehicles are provided for work-related travel.

Where an event requires an overnight stay, accommodation will be provided/covered by Yellow Bus Catering.

If things work well for both sides, there is potential for further work beyond the initial three months, particularly as we head into our 2027 event season.

About us

Yellow Bus Catering operates distinctive American school bus catering units at events across the UK, serving NYC-style pizza, burgers, hot dogs and other American-inspired food.

We're a small independent company, which means you'll be trusted with genuine responsibility and have a direct impact on how our events run.

We're looking for someone who can become a trusted part of the team and, most importantly, someone we can confidently hand the keys to and know the job will get done.

Pay: £2,000.00-£3,000.00 per month
