What they need
Sheffield | Events Assistant | Full-time
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
You are probably the person who naturally takes mental notes on how well an event is structured, noticing whether check-in lines are moving quickly, if directional signs make sense, and how floor staff handle attendee questions when things get busy. You thrive on being organised, staying on your feet, and making sure all the practical details are sorted behind the scenes.
If you are looking for an active, hands-on role supporting live regional exhibitions, trade shows, and brand pop-ups across South Yorkshire, this full-time position is a brilliant entry point. We are expanding our local crew in Sheffield and need an organised, dependable Events Assistant to help prepare materials, manage visitor registration, and support live event execution.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Working directly alongside our event managers and shift leads across partner venues in Sheffield, your duties will include:
- Unpacking, inventorying, and setting up promotional stands, banners, and reception desks prior to event opens.
- Managing guest check-in desks, verifying attendee registrations, and issuing visitor badges promptly.
- Greeting attendees at main entryways, answering general itinerary questions, and pointing out venue facilities.
- Handing out promotional literature, event guides, and branded merchandise throughout live sessions.
- Assisting session speakers by managing stage access, checking presentation audio-visual setups, and managing Q&A microphones.
- Keeping registration areas, display tables, and floor bays clean, tidy, and fully stocked during peak hours.
- Assisting with post-event dismantling, packing equipment securely into transit crates, and auditing stock levels.
- Collecting visitor survey forms and logging attendee counts for post-event summary reports.
What We Look For
We place far greater value on shift reliability, clear spoken communication, and a practical mindset than on formal event management qualifications. We look for:
- A friendly, courteous manner when welcoming attendees, clients, and venue staff.
- A methodical approach when following equipment inventories, floor plans, and health and safety rules.
- Outstanding personal reliability regarding shift punctuality and attendance.
- Comfort working active shifts on your feet in lively, fast-moving venue environments.
- A flexible, cooperative attitude when shift tasks or event schedules change on the day.
- Previous experience in hospitality, customer service, retail, administration, university society events, or sales is a plus, but not essential as full training is provided.
Onboarding & Practical Skill Building
We provide comprehensive, direct guidance from day one so you can carry out every shift assignment with complete confidence.
Your induction begins by pairing up with a senior crew member across local Sheffield sites, getting accustomed to our floor systems, visitor management tools, and pack-down routines. Through regular shift debriefs with your line manager, you will receive ongoing feedback and practical advice on floor coordination and logistics. As you gain hands-on experience, you will take ownership of specific venue zones and work toward senior assistant or event coordinator roles.
Package & Perks
- Competitive base salary
- Enhanced pay rates for weekend event shifts
- Performance-based bonuses linked to event delivery standards
- Full initial training in live event operations, guest services, and floor coordination
- Regular one-to-one coaching and continuous skill progression
- Practical experience working across diverse South Yorkshire venues and live brand activations
