Pay: £13.25 per hour, plus a share of tronc (expected to be around £100 a month)
Schedule: Around 30 hours per week, flexing up to 48 around events

About us

In 1970, Mick and Anne McManus took on their first pub, The Green Man. Fifty-six years later we’re still family-run, and The Green Man (now The Thomas à Becket) is still part of a group that has grown to 18 pubs, bars and hotels across Northamptonshire and Essex. We’ve never stopped caring about the things that got us started: great pubs, great people and a warm welcome for everyone who walks through the door.

About The Sun Inn

The Sun Inn is a proper local community hub, with tonnes of live music, great food and a brilliant garden for summer. Behind the pub sits our barn, a private space perfect for dinners, christenings, birthday parties and even weddings. With a marquee in winter and an open patio in summer, parties of up to 100 have plenty of room to spill out. We host up to four private events a week there.

You’ll work closely with our GM, who is experienced, lots of fun and someone you’ll learn a lot from.

The role

This is a supervisor role with real ownership. Around 15 hours of your week are dedicated to events admin, with the rest spent on the floor running events and supporting the team.

• Own the private events in the barn, from first enquiry through to the night itself
• Plan and run events so every guest leaves wanting to come back
• Use social media to promote events and fill the barn
• Come up with ideas for public events, such as kids’ parties, Halloween parties and our rum festival, and work with the GM to make them happen
• Supervise front-of-house shifts, especially on big event and live band nights
• Lead the team on busy nights and keep standards high

About you

• Solid events experience: you know what it takes to make a party, dinner or wedding run smoothly
• An excellent understanding and genuine love of social media, and ideas for using it to bring people through the door
• A real people person who builds rapport with guests and the team
• You understand that great customer experience is what keeps a pub busy, and you want to keep raising it
• A can-do attitude: when a client makes a challenging ask, your first instinct is to find a way to say yes
• Flexible and happy working evenings and weekends, which is when events happen
