What they need
Exam Invigilators (zero-hours agreement)
Hourly Rate: £15.00
The King Alfred School is looking to recruit reliable and confident individuals, with excellent communication skills, to join our successful invigilation team. The hours are flexible; it may be possible to work full days or just morning (starting at 8.30am) or afternoon (starting at 12.45pm) sessions to cover different combinations of hours during the exam period. Availability during April to June, and November, for public exams, and January to February and May to June for internal mocks is essential.
The role of an Invigilator is key to ensuring examinations (public and internal) are managed efficiently and effectively, in line with agreed procedures and processes. Successful applicants will have recent Invigilator experience, be able to work alone or as part of a team, have an excellent eye for detail and be able to remain calm under pressure. Hours are allocated in advance and are on a casual basis.
Please apply early to avoid disappointment. We reserve the right to close the vacancy once we have the required number of applications.
Paid training days will be in March/April 2027. We would like applicants to be able to offer at least 4 invigilator sessions per week.
Please see the attached job description for the details of the duties involved in this role, as well as a person specification of our ideal candidate.
To apply for this role please visit our website and apply via our online application form.
We are seeking to enhance the diversity of our staff and student body and would therefore particularly welcome applications from groups currently under-represented in our school community, especially those from the global majority.
To read more about King Alfred’s diversity and inclusion statement, please see our DEI statement and KAS Against Racism policy.
All members of the King Alfred School community are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Applicants must undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
All posts involving direct contact with children are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. However, amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’. These are not subject to disclosure to employers and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and conviction can be found on the Disclosure and Barring Service website or at Unlock.
