EXCAVATION & GRADING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

Kern Pacific Construction Company specializes in all phases of underground construction, including excavation, installation, backfill, compaction, and grading for wet and dry utilities.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Excavation & Grading Equipment Operator with a minimum of 5 years of experience in underground utility construction, excavation, and grading. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience operating heavy equipment on residential tract, commercial, and public works projects.

A MINIMUM OF 5 YEARS OF HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment for excavation, grading, backfill, and compaction.
• Perform rough and finish grading according to project plans and specifications.
• Excavate trenches for sewer, water, storm drain, and dry utility installation.
• Perform backfill and compaction following utility installation.
• Maintain proper grade, depth, slope, and elevations.
• Safely operate equipment around existing underground utilities, structures, personnel, and other equipment.
• Read and understand construction plans, grade stakes, markings, elevations, and slopes.
• Work closely with foremen, grade checkers, pipe layers, laborers, and other operators.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report mechanical or safety concerns.
• Maintain equipment in clean and safe operating condition.
• Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
• Complete assigned work efficiently while maintaining quality and meeting project deadlines.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience operating heavy construction equipment REQUIRED.
• Strong experience in excavation and grading REQUIRED.
• Underground utility construction experience required.
• Experience with residential tract work preferred.
• Experience working around sewer, water, storm drain, and dry utilities.
• Knowledge of excavation, trenching, backfill, compaction, rough grading, and finish grading.
• Ability to read grade stakes and understand elevations, slopes, and construction plans.
• Experience operating excavators, loaders, backhoes, dozers, skid steers, and other heavy construction equipment.
• Must understand safe excavation and jobsite safety practices.
• Must be dependable, able to follow directions, and work effectively as part of a crew.
• Must be able to maintain production requirements and meet project deadlines.
• Clean California Driver's License required.
