Excavator Operator (Barge Hand)

StanCraft Marine Construction is seeking an experienced and dependable Excavator Operator (Barge Hand) to support marine construction, excavation, and steel piling operations. This position operates an excavator from a barge and assists with steel pile installation, barge operations, and marine construction activities. The ideal candidate has strong heavy equipment operating skills, mechanical aptitude, and experience working around water. Experience operating an excavator equipped with a vibratory pile-driving head is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate an excavator from a barge to support marine construction, excavation, and steel piling operations.
• Operate an excavator equipped with a vibratory head to drive, position, and remove steel piling.
• Assist with steel pile installation, alignment, positioning, and extraction.
• Perform excavation, loading, material handling, and equipment placement.
• Assist with barge positioning, securing, and general deck operations.
• Perform basic maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on equipment and marine systems as needed.
• Assist with marine welding, fabrication, and repair activities.
• Monitor and maintain diesel engines, hydraulic systems, pumps, and other marine equipment.
• Conduct routine equipment inspections and report maintenance or mechanical concerns.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following company safety policies and applicable regulations.
• Communicate effectively with crew members, equipment operators, pile-driving personnel, and supervisors.
• Perform additional construction and barge-hand duties as needed.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience operating excavators and heavy construction equipment.
• Experience operating an excavator with a vibratory pile-driving head is strongly preferred.
• Experience working from or around barges is strongly preferred.
• Experience with marine welding, fabrication, and repair.
• Experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, pumps, and other marine equipment.
• Familiarity with inland waterways and local operating conditions is beneficial.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to safely operate heavy equipment in a marine environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment and marine systems.
• Working knowledge of equipment maintenance, hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and pumps.
• Understanding of equipment safety and job-site procedures.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Dependable attendance and reliable transportation to job sites.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work in a construction and marine environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to access and navigate construction sites in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to travel to multiple job sites as required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
• Ability to stand, crouch, kneel, climb, lift, and remain physically active throughout the workday.
