Excavator Operator

Formica Plumbing & Sewer Co. is looking for an experienced Excavator Operator to join our underground sewer crew.

We are looking for someone who knows how to operate equipment safely and efficiently while working around homes, utilities, driveways, sidewalks, streets, and other tight-access areas. This position is primarily focused on residential and commercial sewer and underground utility work.

This is a full-time, year-round position for someone who takes pride in their work, respects the equipment they operate, and understands that being a good operator involves more than sitting in the machine.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators for sewer and underground utility excavation
• Excavate sanitary and storm sewer lines
• Dig around foundations, sidewalks, driveways, streets, and existing utilities
• Perform precision digging in tight residential and commercial areas
• Load dump trucks and manage excavated material
• Assist with trenching, grading, stone placement, and backfilling
• Help expose existing sewer lines, inspection risers, cleanouts, and utility connections
• Assist the crew with sewer replacements and repairs
• Safely work around marked underground utilities
• Perform daily equipment inspections
• Keep excavators, trucks, trailers, and job sites clean and organized
• Secure and transport equipment properly
• Communicate equipment problems or maintenance needs promptly
• Work with the crew to complete projects safely and efficiently
• Take job-site and progress photos as required
• Follow company safety procedures and job-site standards

What We're Looking For

We want an operator who can actually operate—not someone who simply has experience sitting in an excavator.

The right candidate should have:

• Previous excavator operating experience
• Experience with sewer, underground utility, excavation, or similar construction work
• Ability to safely dig around existing utilities and structures
• Good understanding of trench safety and excavation practices
• Ability to judge elevations, depth, slope, and job-site conditions
• Experience loading trucks and handling material
• Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions
• Willingness to get out of the machine and help the crew when needed
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Strong attendance and dependability
• Ability to communicate and work as part of a team

CDL experience is a plus.

Plumbing, sewer, drainage, or underground utility experience is a major plus.

Our equipment and trucks are important to our operation. We expect our operator to treat them accordingly.

That means keeping equipment clean, completing daily checks, reporting problems before they become major repairs, and leaving the truck, trailer, and excavator ready for the next job.

We also expect everyone on the underground crew to work as a team. When you're not operating, you're expected to help where needed.
