What they need

DignityMoves

Executive & Operations Associate

Help end street homelessness and keep a fast-growing nonprofit running like clockwork. DignityMoves is looking for a proactive, detail-oriented Executive & Operations Associate to partner directly with our CEO and COO, keep our operations running smoothly, and bring our events and volunteer programs to life across a growing portfolio of interim and permanent supportive housing communities.

ABOUT DIGNITYMOVES

DignityMoves is an innovative young nonprofit dedicated to ending street homelessness. Our model uses temporarily vacant land, relocatable prefabricated and modular housing units, and emergency building codes to build communities quickly, cost-effectively, and at scale. By harnessing public-private partnerships and creative funding strategies, DignityMoves empowers municipalities to build housing quickly and move toward functional zero unsheltered homelessness.

Beyond building housing communities, we are working to create the fundamental systems change necessary to truly end the crisis of street homelessness. We are actively involved in homelessness policy at the state and federal levels and we believe that educating the public, elected officials, and policy makers about solutions to this crisis is a critical component of our mission.

Headquartered in San Francisco, DignityMoves has built 15 communities across California in just the past 5 years. We are now working to expand our reach nationally.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, you'll split your time roughly equally across three areas: supporting the CEO's decision-making and learning to work at the top of a nonprofit; building operational infrastructure that enables the organization to scale; and owning our volunteer engagement and events programs.

You'll thrive in this role if you have strong organizational skills, sound judgment, resourcefulness, and a proactive can-do attitude. You should be proficient using AI tools as a working partner in getting things done efficiently.

We're growing rapidly and this is intense, mission-driven work shaped by Silicon Valley startup culture - our founder and executive team come from both the for-profit and non-profit world. We seek someone early in their career who's genuinely passionate about ending homelessness and ambitious about learning how to lead and build organizations. You'll work hard, but as the CEO's right hand, an operations manager, and the volunteer programs owner, you'll be well positioned for leadership in either the nonprofit or for-profit sectors. You'll gain direct mentorship from our experienced leadership team and do work that deeply matters.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Supporting the CEO

  • Process the CEO’s email daily. Utilizing Superhuman, Claude or other AI tools, responsible for drafting responses, triaging, delegating, and summarizing for feedback from the CEO as needed. Over time you will grow to be able to respond to emails more independently.
  • Maintain the CEO’s calendar, including rescheduling meetings on short notice, aligning multiple meeting participants, and managing her complex mix of travel, work, and personal commitments.
  • Help design and implement AI tools to quickly find answers across email, google drive, and external sources.
  • Work with the CEO to research, draft and publish regular Substack articles, Op-Ed pieces, and other thought-leadership content. Configure Claude and other AI tools to produce output that is accurate, contextual, and aligned with the CEO voice and DignityMoves’ messaging.
  • Monitor and manage the CEO’s personal social media accounts, aligning with the marketing team’s DignityMoves posts and messaging.
  • Prepare board packages and coordinate Board of Directors meetings.
  • Work with the CEO on special projects, researching ideas, and backstopping things that fall through the cracks in the existing team org structure.
  • Learn, in real time, what it takes to run a nonprofit and support a founder.

Operations & Office Support

  • Support all members of the Executive Team with meeting scheduling, travel, or other projects as needed.
  • Work with the COO on HR, Finance and Operations, building the systems that keep the team aligned from onboarding new hires to processing invoices to organizing the Google Drive and helping implement organizational SOPs.
  • Monitor DignityMoves' general email and phone line, responding to and routing inquiries.
  • Serve as Office Manager: keep our SF office stocked with supplies, order team lunches, and coordinate with building management.
  • Coordinate with service provider partners to collect quarterly data reports about clients served and outcomes.
  • Support the fundraising team with donor follow-up notes, tax statements and other paperwork as needed.

Volunteer and Community Engagement

  • Work with the Fundraising and Marketing team to plan and execute grand openings, groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, and other community events - managing RSVPs, logistics, and staffing to ensure everything runs smoothly.
  • Own the Adopt-A-Room program - building a clear, repeatable process for volunteers to furnish and decorate new communities, from vendor lists and ordering to coordinating setup days.
  • Manage and expand our volunteer program including our Pancake Breakfast program, run in partnership with high school leaders. Build an active portfolio of volunteer groups (faith-based organizations, Rotary Club chapters, school groups), and coordinate with the fundraising team on corporate volunteer events.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • 3–5 years of professional experience in operations, administrative support, events, or a related field.
  • A proactive, resourceful, no-task-too-small attitude and strong organizational skills.
  • Comfort and enthusiasm using Claude, Claude Co-Work and other AI productivity tools; agile building AI personal assistant tools, email automation tools and other general AI productivity applications.
  • Discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive personal, organizational, and leadership information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with vendors, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with minimal oversight.
  • Based in the Bay Area, able to work in-person in our downtown San Francisco office at least two days per week.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and work weekend events approximately 4–6 times per year; ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Valid driver's license for occasional event and site logistics.
  • A passion for DignityMoves' mission to end street homelessness.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Claude, Slack, Superhuman, Granola, Google Slides and/or HubSpot preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience working with marginalized communities, including people experiencing homelessness, is a plus but not required.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary: $100,000–$115,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; Discretionary Paid Time Off (DPTO) for vacation and sick time; paid holidays; a 401(k); and short- and long-term disability coverage.

DignityMoves is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive, welcoming, and equitable environment for all. We do not discriminate based upon race, religion, color, national origin, gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, socioeconomic status, status as a protected veteran, status as an individual with a disability, or other applicable legally protected characteristics.
