What they need

Belvedere Care Centre is seeking an experienced Executive Chef lead to lead our dietary team and oversee the preparation of delicious, nutritious, and high-quality meals for our residents.

The successful candidate will bring strong culinary and leadership skills, a thorough understanding of nutrition and food services—particularly within gerontology and long-term care—and a genuine commitment to supporting resident well-being.

As a key member of our team, the Executive Chef will provide leadership and direction to dietary staff, ensure food safety and quality standards are consistently maintained, and work collaboratively with our Dietitian to plan menus that meet residents' nutritional, therapeutic, and individual dietary needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and provide direction to food service staff, fostering a positive, respectful, and collaborative team environment.
  • Oversee the preparation, presentation, and service of meals to ensure food is nutritious, appetizing, and meets established quality standards.
  • Ensure food is prepared and served in accordance with applicable food safety, sanitation, and infection prevention standards.
  • Monitor food for taste, palatability, temperature, portion size, and overall quality.
  • Assess food and supply requirements based on resident census, nutritional needs, therapeutic diets, and menu requirements.
  • Order, receive, organize, and manage food, kitchen supplies, and inventory effectively.
  • Collaborate with the onsite Dietitian to develop, review, and update menus and therapeutic diets.
  • Ensure meals and dietary services accommodate residents' nutritional requirements, allergies, preferences, and therapeutic needs.
  • Conduct and participate in required audits and quality assurance activities to ensure food service standards are consistently met.
  • Monitor meals being served to ensure established standards for quality, quantity, nutrition, and presentation are maintained.
  • Support staff training and development related to food preparation, sanitation, food safety, and resident dietary requirements.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and resident-centred service within the dietary department.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Graduation from a recognized Culinary Arts or Professional Cooking program.
  • FoodSafe Level 2 certification.
  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a long-term care, healthcare, or retirement living environment.
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition, food safety, sanitation, and therapeutic diets, with knowledge of gerontology and the nutritional needs of older adults considered an asset.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong inventory management and food-cost awareness.
  • A two-year Food Service Management program is required, or willingness to complete the program.
  • Active membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) is required, or willingness to pursue membership.
