What they need
Help Shape the Future of Softball in Wellington
The Wellington Softball Association (WSA) is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking Executive Committee Member to join our governance team and help lead softball through its next phase of growth and evolution.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the future of our sport. We are looking for someone who can help us think strategically about what softball in Wellington should look like over the next 10 years and what steps we need to take now to ensure we are ready for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
About the Role
As a member of the Executive Committee, you will work alongside fellow volunteers who are passionate about growing and strengthening softball across the Wellington region. You will play a key role in guiding strategic conversations, challenging current thinking, and helping WSA position itself for long-term success.
We are particularly interested in someone who can support the Association through a period of future-focused planning and organisational change, including exploring new partnership models and opportunities to create a more sustainable and efficient sporting landscape.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking someone who brings:
- Experience leading or supporting strategic planning, organisational transformation, or significant direction-setting initiatives.
- Experience helping organisations develop a long-term vision and roadmap for the future.
- A proven track record in facilitating strategic change within a not-for-profit organisation, sporting body, membership organisation, or community-based entity.
- Governance experience, ideally serving on community, sporting, or not-for-profit boards.
- Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to bring people together around shared goals.
- Strategic thinking and an ability to balance future opportunities with practical realities.
- Experience from another sporting code would be particularly valuable, bringing fresh perspectives and ideas that could benefit softball.
A Key Focus Area
One of the important conversations ahead for WSA is how we create a stronger and more sustainable future for softball in our region. This includes exploring opportunities to work more closely with partner associations and considering whether greater collaboration, shared services, or even future merger models could help:
- Grow participation and improve player experiences.
- Reduce administrative and operating costs.
- Strengthen volunteer and governance capacity.
- Increase investment in delivering softball rather than maintaining multiple organisational structures.
- Create a more sustainable platform for future generations.
Experience facilitating these types of discussions, particularly within community, sporting, or membership-based organisations, would be highly valued.
Appointment Term
Executive Committee members are appointed for a two-year term, commencing in September 2026, with the opportunity to seek reappointment in accordance with the Association's constitution and governance arrangements.
Time Commitment
This is an unpaid volunteer position.
The Executive Committee currently meets fortnightly for approximately 1.5 hours. In addition, Executive Committee members are expected to take responsibility for a portfolio area and contribute to strategic projects, stakeholder engagement, and governance activities between meetings.
Applicants should expect to commit a few additional hours each week, depending on their portfolio responsibilities and involvement in key initiatives.
As WSA embarks on a significant piece of future-focused strategic planning, there may be periods where additional time is required to support workshops, planning sessions, and engagement with partner associations and stakeholders.
Interested?
If you are passionate about community sport, have experience helping organisations navigate change, and want to help shape the future of softball in Wellington, we'd love to hear from you.
Please complete the application form and send alongside your CV or governance CV to [email protected]
