The ideal candidate is an organized and approachable leader who enjoys working with people, can manage multiple priorities, builds strong community relationships, and is passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of Claremont Soup Kitchen operations while carrying out the strategic priorities and policies established by the Board of Directors.
- Keep the Board informed of organizational operations, finances, fundraising activities, challenges, and emerging needs.
- Prepare the annual operating budget for Board review and monitor revenue and expenses throughout the year.
- Establish annual fundraising goals for Board review and lead fundraising efforts, donor stewardship, sponsorships, and other resource-development activities.
- Identify appropriate grant opportunities and prepare, submit, track, and complete required reporting for grant funding.
- Oversee daily operations and ensure scheduled meals and other services are provided consistently, safely, efficiently, and with dignity.
- Provide hands-on assistance with meal service and other operational needs if necessary.
- Recruit, supervise, schedule, coach, and evaluate employees and oversee day-to-day human resources responsibilities.
- Coordinate payroll in partnership with the organization's payroll service provider.
- Coordinate volunteer recruitment, while maintaining a welcoming, respectful, and safe environment for staff, volunteers, and patrons.
- Oversee bookkeeping and financial administration, including accounts payable, payroll, financial recordkeeping, and information needed for Board oversight and external reporting.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners, nonprofit organizations, local businesses, donors, governmental agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Oversee organizational communications and marketing, including social media, donor communications, community outreach, and public awareness efforts.
- Serve as a visible, positive, and professional representative of Claremont Soup Kitchen within the community.
- Address difficult or sensitive situations involving patrons, employees, or volunteers calmly, respectfully, and consistently.
- Maintain appropriate records and support compliance with applicable food-safety, employment, financial, grant, and organizational requirements.
- Perform other duties reasonably related to the position and the evolving needs of the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for a well-rounded leader who can successfully manage both the people and operational sides of a community-focused nonprofit organization.
Preferred qualifications and skills include:
- Demonstrated experience supervising employees and working effectively with volunteers.
- Experience working in a nonprofit, community-service, human-service, or other mission-driven organization is preferred.
- Experience with bookkeeping and basic financial management, including payroll, accounts payable, budgeting, and financial recordkeeping.
- Experience with fundraising, grant writing, donor relations, sponsorships, or community outreach is strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with employees, volunteers, patrons, donors, community partners, and Board members.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain appropriate confidentiality, and handle challenging situations professionally and compassionately.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing operational needs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, and comfort learning technology used for bookkeeping, fundraising, communications, and operations.
- Willingness and ability to be an active, hands-on leader and assist with food-service and other operational activities when needed.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks reasonably associated with kitchen and food-service operations.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on meal service, staffing needs, fundraising activities, community events, and other organizational requirements.
