What they need
Executive Officer I/II (2 posts) in the Student Development Services [Ref. R/277/26]
Service-learning is a key pillar of Student Development Services (SDS), fostering students’ civic awareness, whole-person development and global outlook through meaningful engagement with the community. SDS oversees a diverse service-learning portfolio [including the Community Engagement Programme (CEP), Service Leadership Training Programme (SLTP), Service Outreach Experience Programme (SOEP) and other service-learning initiatives].
The post plays a key role in planning, coordinating and delivering two major service-learning initiatives: the Community Engagement Programme (CEP) and the Service Outreach Experience Programme (SOEP).
Duties
Reporting to the Associate Director (Student Life and Resources), the appointees will be responsible for:
- Managing the full spectrum of the Community Engagement Programme (CEP), an inclusive platform that provides diverse co-curricular service-learning opportunities for students to engage with different service groups and communities. Responsibilities include planning, development, implementation, evaluation and expansion of the programme to support the University’s educational mission and student development goals;
- Identifying and coordinating volunteer and community engagement opportunities with both internal and external stakeholders, while establishing and maintaining strong long-term partnerships to expand service-learning and community engagement opportunities for students;
- Planning, developing, and implementing the Service Outreach Experience Programme (SOEP), the dynamic service tours that facilitate students’ participation in overseas and non-local community service and experiential learning activities;
- Developing high-quality publicity, promotional, and programme materials to enhance programme visibility, encourage student participation, and foster sustained engagement in service-learning activities;
- Administering institutional and externally funded budgets (including government grants and sponsorships, ensuring effective utilisation of resources and compliance with the University's relevant funding and reporting regulations to maximise student development outcomes);
- Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders (including NGOs, community organisations, academic units, and administrative departments, to ensure the effective delivery, assessment and enhancement of service-learning initiatives); and
- Performing any other duties as assigned.
The appointees will also be required to work flexible hours (including evenings and weekends when necessary) and undertake overseas duties as required.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline;
- At least 5 years' experience in community engagement, programme management, student affairs, or related fields. Experience in managing service-learning programmes within higher education institutions or non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will be a distinct advantage;
- A self-motivated, proactive, and resourceful individual with the ability to work independently. The appointees should also be a strong team player with proven experience in engaging and collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders;
- A strong commitment to student development and service excellence, coupled with excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills;
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); and
- Demonstrated experience and a strong track record in the areas outlined under the duties of the position will be an advantage.
Candidates with less experience may be considered for appointment as Executive Officer II.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written test.
