What they need
At Fill in the blank inc, we design for the fast lane. We specialize in creating high-impact brand activations for the world’s leading automotive and technology companies. From massive double-deck structures at CES to sleek vehicle reveals at the [Local/International] Auto Show, we build environments that stop traffic.
We are looking for a designer who understands that a trade show booth isn’t just a structure—it’s a finely tuned machine of logistics, lighting, and brand storytelling.
The Role
You will be the visual lead for large-scale exhibit projects. You need to be comfortable working at a blistering pace, often iterating designs overnight during pitch phases. You will balance "Blue Sky" creative thinking with the hard realities of drayage, setup windows, and modular construction.
Key Responsibilities
Creative & Conceptual High-Fidelity Visualization: Create photo-realistic renderings that capture the drama of automotive lighting, glossy finishes, and LED integration. Vehicle Staging: Design layouts that highlight vehicle lines and sightlines, utilizing turntables, ramps, and platforms effectively. Traffic & Flow: Engineer visitor journeys for high-volume crowds, ensuring accessible flow between reception counters, VIP lounges, and interactive demo zones.
Technical & Modular Design System Mastery: Design using modular systems (e.g., BeMatrix, Aluvision) mixed with custom fabrication to maximize budget and setup speed. Graphic Integration: Plan for massive-scale print and digital graphics (tension fabric, LED walls), ensuring files are print-ready and perfectly scaled. Logistics Awareness: Design components that pack flat and ship efficiently. You must consider crate counts, weight limits, and material handling costs during the design phase. On-Site Supervision: Occasionally travel to show sites to oversee the installation, ensuring the "finish and fit" meets our high standards.
The "Must-Haves" Experience: 3-5+ years specifically in Trade Show or Event Design. (Experience with automotive brands is a massive plus). Software Stack: Mastery of 3ds Max, Rhino, or SketchUp. Rendering: V-Ray, Lumion, or Unreal Engine (Real-time rendering is highly valued here). Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite. Material Knowledge: Deep understanding of aluminum extrusion systems, tension fabrics, truss rigging, and high-gloss laminates. The "Motor Show" Eye: You understand how to light a car. You know the difference between floodlighting and highlighting specific body lines.
The "Nice-to-Haves" Experience with Vector works (often used for lighting/rigging plans). Familiarity with ADA requirements for temporary structures. Ability to sketch quickly on an iPad/paper during client brainstorming sessions.
Why You'll Love It Here The Scale: See your designs built at massive scales (50x50 layouts and larger). The Pace: No two weeks are the same. We move fast, and we celebrate the wins.
