About Us
Nestled at the foot of the South Downs in one of Sussex’s most picturesque historic villages, The Ram Inn is a celebrated 16th-century village gastropub with 8 cosy guest rooms.
We take huge pride in our reputation for exceptional local food, fine wine, great beer and warm, attentive service, earning us regular features in the national press and a loyal local following.
The Role
We’re looking for an organised, hands-on Bar Supervisor to take ownership of our bar/cellar and help us maintain the high standards our guests expect.
This is a key role within the pub, with responsibility for keeping the cellar clean, organised and well stocked, ensuring our beers are consistently served at their best, and helping the wider bar team understand and maintain great cellar and beer standards.
You’ll play a particularly important role in looking after our real ales, from cellar management and conditioning through to dispense, alongside stock control, ordering, line cleaning and monitoring wastage.
There will also be opportunities to support and train the bar team, sharing your knowledge and helping us maintain excellent standards across the pub.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Managing and maintaining a clean, tidy and well-organised cellar
- Looking after our real ales, ensuring they are properly conditioned, rotated and served at their best
- Carrying out regular stock takes and keeping accurate stock records
- Monitoring stock levels and placing orders when required
- Monitoring and reducing wastage, identifying discrepancies and maintaining good stock control
- Carrying out regular beer line cleans and maintaining high standards of cellar hygiene
- Monitoring beer quality, temperature and dispense
- Supporting the bar team with beer, cellar and stock training
- Working closely with the management team to maintain excellent standards and efficient ordering
What We’re Looking For
Passion for great beer: A genuine interest in beer, particularly real ale, and pride in ensuring it is served at its best.
Organised & detail-oriented: Someone who enjoys keeping things clean, tidy and under control, with a good eye for stock levels and wastage.
Reliable & responsible: This is a role with real ownership, so we’re looking for someone who can work independently and take pride in getting things right.
Team player: You’ll work closely with our management and bar teams and will play an important role in helping develop their knowledge and standards.
Experience is welcome, but enthusiasm is key: Previous cellar, bar or hospitality experience is ideal, particularly experience with real ale, stock control and line cleaning. However, we’re happy to support the right person who has the right attitude and willingness to learn.
Benefits & Perks
Competitive Pay: From £13.71 per hour depending on age & experience.
Equal Share of Service Charge: Generous tip share (adds £7,000+ per year for full-time roles).
Work in a stunning location: Enjoy your shift breaks surrounded by the idyllic Sussex countryside.
Great work culture: Supportive management and a friendly team that looks out for one another.
A role with responsibility: The opportunity to take real ownership of the cellar and play an important part in maintaining the quality of our drinks operation.
Getting to Us
We are located in the heart of Firle village (just off the A27 between Lewes and Eastbourne).
By Car: Own transport is ideal, with free parking on site.
By Train/Walk/Bike: We are just a short trip from Glynde train station (with direct links to Lewes, Brighton, and Eastbourne).
How to Apply
If you’re passionate about great beer, take pride in high standards and enjoy being part of a busy, friendly village pub, we’d love to hear from you.
