Position Overview

Oly Grounds Coffee is looking for an experienced, reliable, and positive barista to join our team. We are looking for someone who is confident behind the bar, passionate about quality coffee and customer service, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Our ideal barista is someone who takes pride in their work, communicates respectfully, shows up consistently, and helps create a welcoming environment for both customers and coworkers.

Responsibilities

• Prepare espresso drinks, specialty drinks, drip coffee, teas, and other menu items to Oly Grounds standards
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of espresso preparation, milk steaming, drink building, and café operations
• Provide friendly, genuine, and efficient customer service
• Accurately take orders, process payments, and handle cash
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workspace throughout the shift
• Follow all food safety, health department, and sanitation requirements
• Properly stock, rotate, and maintain inventory and supplies
• Complete opening and closing procedures accurately
• Maintain consistent drink quality, presentation, and portioning
• Work efficiently during busy periods while maintaining a positive attitude
• Communicate professionally and respectfully with coworkers and management
• Work independently and recognize what needs to be done without constant direction
• Help train and support newer team members when appropriate
• Follow company policies, procedures, recipes, and operational standards
• Protect customer, employee, and business privacy and maintain professional boundaries

Qualifications

Required:

• Previous barista experience
• Strong understanding of espresso and coffee preparation
• Ability to steam milk and consistently produce quality drinks
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Reliable attendance and punctuality
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Professional, respectful, and positive attitude
• Ability to follow recipes, procedures, and food-safety standards

Preferred:

• 1+ year of specialty coffee/barista experience
• Experience with opening and closing a coffee shop
• Experience with POS systems and cash handling
• Experience training or mentoring other baristas
• Knowledge of espresso dialing-in, grinders, extraction, and drink consistency

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

• Stand and work for extended periods
• Frequently lift and carry supplies and equipment within reasonable workplace requirements
• Bend, reach, and move throughout the work area
• Perform repetitive tasks such as espresso preparation, drink production, cleaning, and stocking
• Safely work around hot liquids, steam, equipment, and other normal coffee-shop hazards
